Hey guys!

Found this gauge on ebay:

What do you guys think about it ? I asked the seller a couple of questions and here is what he answered back

We are producer of this gauges and we guarantee its high quality. Return rate for overall production is below 2%. On ebay we sold about 100, and had one return.
It is gauge only for steel surfaces, with embedded probe (no cable probe). Measurement resolution: 10um, measurement range: up to 1100 um

I have no experience with paint gauges and i think it would be a nice tool to add to my collection.

I would not, personally. It only reads ferrous metal. The Highline Meters read Ferrous and Aluminum and are only $200 or $250 depending on model.

Looks like the range is similar.

Cant comment on quality of build.

And it is shipping from Poland. Not US.
 
IMO I'd do as 5.4 Shelby recommends and steer clear of that for a Highline.
 
The Highline is a reasonably priced gage that seems to have good reviews from the detailers that have bought it; they are sold direct.

I don't have one, I have an ebay one that came directly from China (how that works, I don't know) that was between the price of the Highline and the one in this thread. Shortly after I got it the audible reading indication stopped working...I'd stick with something that's actually being shipped from this country so you have some recourse...that's why I recommended the Highline, I don't think I"ve ever heard any complaints about it. Of course the Defelsko sold here at AG is a very good instrument, it's much more expensive though.

Whats the difference between the one at 200 and the one at 250 ?

I think it is mostly size from what I can tell. Looks like the II is smaller and lighter. Only uses 1 battery where the I uses 4.

Wow that's a pretty high starting price for a used one! Particularly with the $6 shipping, you're starting out at almost 80% of a new one.
 
yeah i would not get that meter, i do not own one yet but you really want something that can read all types of metals some can even read fiberglass panels. a lot of cars use aluminum panels so that cheap meter would just end up costing you money any way you look at it, especially if your doing an aluminum bodied car and buff through the clearcoat/paint...i would just save up more and get a genuine made in usa product!
