Would you get this for a Mobile Detailing Vehicle? Why or Why Not?

I would rather get punched in the face then drive a hybird vehicle

I almost ran over my dog in one of those stupid cars

Look in to the ford transit. They are small but have big cargo space

Try out the 4-cylinder Transit Connect by Ford if you are going the van route. Traded in all of my company's E-150 and E-250s cargo vans and bought about 10 of these. They are unbelievable. Great storage. They have a bin system as well. You can almost stand up in them. Lower cargo area, easy to load stuff in an out. Payload of about 1600 lbs. Get about 40 miles to the gallon. Cost my fuel costs in half. Vehicles pay for themselves in about 2.5 years.

+1

Not a fan of the Prius at all.

Many auto manufacturers have recalls---some mandated, some volutary.

-Make sure that you learn where neutral is on the Prius when there is: "unprovoked acceleration".
-Beware of the current issue (recall) with the "braking system"
-There is usually no driver's seat adjustment...Tall Man Misery!! :D
-Remember the Lady who recently won her lawsuit against Toyota---She proved her Prius was not getting the "claimed MPG"!!
-Hybrid battery replacement now is down to around $2500 (+ labor).
-To what extent would the MPG be reduced by the weight of your detailing supplies

One must decide if the alleged-totality of: MPG fuel-savings gain is worth it, I guess.

Good Luck!...no matter your decision B&B

Please share your experience with the Prius that qualifies you to make such a statement.

Welcome to the forum.

The brakes feel like mush, there is hardly any engine noise (in a bad way), the seats are extremely uncomfortable (especially or drivers with a bad back), the suspension feels cheap, its drivetrain is pointless (it is essentially a car with a gas engine that drives the wheels and another couple hundred pounds of electric motor and batteries, the only way to make use out of it is to drive it in the city, the suspension feels cheaply made, the interior squeaks after 6 months, the list goes on...

For those who think it's kind to the environment, the batteries are not the most environmentally friendly of manufactured products, and they need to be changed after 10 or so years.

As a credential, my sister in law owns one and she let me borrow it for a week while my car was in the shop. It didn't impress me at all when I used it. As I said before though, to each his own.

I also have been a member for 1 year+, never the less thank you for your welcome I hope to participate more now that I finished school and have a year between finishing schools.

If you are sure the Prius will suit your needs I would check into the warranty angle since it will be used commercially. Also check out the Toyota dealers in your area. A lousy dealer can make even a great car a misery.

Prius is called smug-mobile for a reason...

I'd say a Ford Transit would be great for a detailer.
Or even a Grand Caravan..

We currently are using a GMC 2500 Van to detail out of and also feel your pain with fuel costs cutting in to profits. After doing this for about 7 months with the van I feel it is oversized for many of our jobs. But also have days to where your glad to have the extra space.

I think the Prius could be a good choice as far as a fuel standpoint, I would also look into what its payload capabilites would be compared to how much equipment/people you would usually be carryig with you. But as far as others have stated the Transit might not be a bad idea. Has the capabilities of a van, but improves slightly on fuel
Economy.

Good luck with your search.

I would love to smash my full size gas guzzling V8 truck into a prius

How about the Chevy HHR panel wagon? I like the retro looks with modern features of today's cars.

I dont know why i didnt mention this before but my Dodge Magnum is very well suited for my mobile detailing operation. Holds everything i want to carry and them some. Will get a pic of everything loaded into it once of these days.
