Ok so lately I have been detailing out of my Camry that is set up for pure detailing. I will post a tread later on today just in case someone wants to do something similar.

So today I got a guy that wants 5 full corrections on his classic cars (along with some interior work and chrome work) and he said he is willing to trade. The trade is 5 full corrections for a 2000 Dodge Dakota. I am not a big fan of dodge but I really need a truck to put a bigger water tank in. The truck is worth around 4-5k and the paint is awesome considering the year. Fair trade?

If you want to know the condition of the cars they still have clear coats except for one that is crackling somewhat but not too bad. Most of the clear has just faded away over time. He just wants to make them look nice so he can sell them.hummmmm:dunno:

man hecks yeah i'd do it!!! Thats a nice trade right there!

Yeah I figured too haha. He is helping me out since I am in college. Since I don't treat detailing as work I feel like I can enjoy doing these full corrections and then get a truck out of it as well.

I for one would like to see your setup :props:

Going to prepare it today. I am just wondering how to post pictures without it showing up as a thumbnail. It seems when I post a picture they all show up at the bottom of my post..

You got me brother. I haven't even gotten that far in the picture posting process

Lol its all good. If not I will just post them on the bottom.

That is a very good trade IMO, even if your correction services would typically cost more than that. You are essentially trading labor for money either way you look at it, but in the case of the truck you actually keep getting paid (as long as it is running and serves you well).

Host your pictures on photobucket.com

Once the pictures are up, put your mouse over each picture you want posted, it will bring up a little menu thing and click the box below for each picture you want.

Then go to the bottom of the page and click "choose action", then "generate links for codes selected"

Copy the "full size" code under "IMG for bulletin boards & forums" and paste it into your thread.

Awesome thanks guys. This is what I was looking for!

And one nice thing to consider when bartering is that it keeps your relatives out of your business.:xyxthumbs:

Lol my parents wanted to help me with a truck, but I always liked doing stuff on my own. My sister on the other hand...

If it's worth 4-5k? Yes I would... That's near 1k per job.

I would say, take the deal also! A couple things I’ve noticed about Dodge from experience on working on my boss's old truck and other Dodge trucks check the lower door seams underneath the interior panels – Dodge’s love to start rusting along those seams. Also they tend to rust right below the door running boards. Just something I would look at so I wanted to pass on the information from my experiences.

Although you do live in CA rust might be slower moving then here in Illinois. However I'd say it’s a great deal! I’d take it! :dblthumb2:

Yeah I think it will be worth it. And If one car doesnt average out to 1k with the hourly charge I can always do his daily drivers. I really want a truck so I want to make both sides happy and make sure the guy who is trading me the truck is also happy with the work and with the deal.

I am not a big fan of dodge but I have heard that they are ok trucks. I am going to use it specifically for work. But thank you for the heads up I will check to see if it is rusting. Maybe it was because of snow salt in your case? The good thing is we have a mechanic in my family so the first thing I do when I get it is have him do a full inspection of the truck just to make sure it is ok.

Absolutely... If this truck is mechanically sound, I don't see how you loose...

I'd say do it, It's only gonna cost you some time and a small amount in products. Then if you don't like the dodge clean it up real nice and sell it for more than you would charge for the 5 corrections and your out ahead of where yo0u would have been. Just my $.02
