We all detail cars for one reason or another. Some of us detail cars for a living. Some of us detail cars for the pure enjoyment of seeing the end result. Some of us just use it as a form of exercise.
I'm fortunate to be one of those individuals who details cars for the pure enjoyment of the activity as well as seeing the end result. I constantly respect all you guys and gals who detail for a living; it's hard work, man.
This past weekend my family and I drove out to Highland Park, Illinois to see some friends that we haven't seen in a few years. (Interesting how when living in the same city a couple or more years can go by before you see people you know.) As we were leaving, my friend helped empty some clothes out of the back trunk that we were handing down to their little girl. He noticed I had a Tesla and asked how I liked it. Obviously, I said that I enjoyed it very much and that it was an excellent car to drive. He then proceeded to ask how long I've had it.
After I told him I've had it for 5 years, he said "Wow, it looks brand-new!"
That's the kind of response I think we all hear every now and again, and it's the response we all deserve to get for the hard work we put into our automobiles - fee for service or not.
