Considering a Chicago Region IP they would probably just create inflammatory postings. But, a if they are just spoofing that IP address and really reside at another location they would be more likely to be aware of a weakness in vBulletin software and utilize that to acquire other users account information...email address, passwords etc. A lot of people tend to use the same password for forums as they do for email which creates an method to use others email accounts...also they could deface the site and/or utilize a weakness it to boost their own sites SEO... The list is long...

:whs: I doubt that the person is advanced enough to spoof the address considering they only using brute force method to gain access to my account. I see they continued to attempt to gain access even when the 5 failed login threshold was met. They went for another 4 tries. I think its pretty funny actually.

ok you got me Alex...

I was just trying to change your avatar to Hello Kitty though... :)

LMMFAO Tim...thats HILARIOUS!!!

I'm taking AP programing in school right now and I have no idea what BMW just said lol. Seems I still have a lot to learn.

Actually Brute Force is typical of most attacks whether they are an amateur or a pro.

You wouldn't necessarily learn it in a programming class. Networking class yes.

Absolutely...its one of the most common form of attacks.

I started this thread because I wanted to know if anyone else had this issue last night, but I see that the admin disabled this thread from popping up in the home feed when people comment on it.

Thanks Shane...yeah thats the info I got on the initial search but not sure if its the location of the ISP or the actually residence of the offender.

Matt...did you clean this up or did the mods? Because I read something TOTALLY different just a second ago.

The first person that came to mind was the individual who had a type of meat as the screename. Thats the only person that I could think of that would be feeling a certain way towards me because I pulled his card. But I'll refrain from formally placing blame on someone.

Oh snap...I just looked and yeah...I didn't know he was on queue. WOW! I guess he really thought I was focusing my energy on him. I forgot about that dude a LONG time ago. I moved on. He's BEEN on my ignore list so I didn't skip a beat. I guess he thought it was me that got him in trouble....aawwwww too bad so sad that I ain't thinking about him.

i cleaned it up lol oh well, atleast your password is secure enough!

I would say that you should not be posting this information. This person could easily have had their IP address hijacked to get into the account. This person may not even be the culprit.

You really should be more responsible about posting this information. Please take down your post. Thanks and enjoy your afternoon.

I don't think he did anything wrong with posting that information. IP addresses are public domain. Go to ipchicken.com and look to see what YOUR IP addres is.

Thats true, plus if the forum and oh say accounting are using the same network it's much easier to access through the forum and it would easy to set up a sniffer and piece together account access !!
