Wow! This is bad... really bad... but we're going to make it all better...

Really looking forward to seeing the progress on this one. My 65 Impala convertible is in a similar state. Was repainted in the mid-80s, and really needs a detail. My PC and LC pads are ready for a workout!

Very cool car. I ran around with a buddy in high school and his daily driver was a 1967 Impala 2-door... good times...

First post for me! I'll try and be less shy...

Jason.

Glad to have you aboard and welcome!

I washed the car and the vinyl top last night when I washed the car so it's clean and dry.

No water beading, doesn't look like the paint ever received much attention after it was painted...

We're going to treat it with RaggTopp Vinyl Protectant for Convertible Vinyl Tops but not till after the polishing work is all done. So to protect the weave or grain of the vinyl material from splatter while our students are honing their skills we'll cover the vinyl with a plastic drop cloth.

I went to the local hardware store and found drop cloths that are stated to be biodegradable, at least more so than the normal clear drop cloths so in an effort to be environmentally friendly thought I'd give it a try.

You can also see the new Autogeek Microfiber Beach Towels or Window Towels for covering the front window and also the fresh air grill just in front of the wipers. I didn't see any ugly splatter down inside the fresh air grill and we're certainly not going to be the first to sling any down inside and past the grill.

I hinted that we would have a pretty cool car to work on for our wetsanding class instead of hood and it arrived about an hour ago...

Yeah... sorry about the weather... it's raining cats and dogs outside...

Are you staying at the Marriott tonight?

I'm going to be here at the studio for a little longer tweaking a few last things for this weekends class and the Marriott is on my way home, plus a chance to get out of the rain.

:)

Yes I am staying at the Marrott- right now I'm enjoying some seafood at Shrimpers Restaurant

Good food, I drove my boat by there last weekend... the smell wafting over the water was making me hungry!

The restaurant behind the yellow boat above my bow and to the left is Shrimpers... next is Finz...

Headed out to the Stuart Sandbar with the Starline...

I'll stop in after I leave here if it's not too late...

Caddy is ready for tomorrow's class!

Boy does this bring back memories. My first car was a 1962 sedan deville. It was purchased used in 1972 with 25000 miles on it. Back than when it was time to wash the car ( I don't think the term detailing existed) we didn't have a two bucket system and micro fiber towels. It was just some dish washing liquid and some old cotton tee shirst lol :).
I just picked up a new 2011 Cadillac CTS V coupe and I must say that Cadillac and the field of auto detaqiling have both come a long way. FOR THE BETTER!!!

That Caddy reminds of Animal House. Shamma lama ding dong! Some of you will get the reference.

Anyhow, you guys attending the class this weekend are going to have a blast. You MUST take advantage of the after class meet at the Marriott. Some serious networking takes place there and you will learn much from the shop talk. Have fun gang!

Just to culminate this thread, here's some after pictures with some of the before pictures copied and inserted from the first page to give the full effect of the dramatic transformation.

The entire thread for the class and the process can be found here,
