Xmt#3 = Pb Ssr2.5?

Hello all,
New to the forum and my first post! Been reading alot on the forum and soaking all this info in like a sponge. I never was one to wash my SUV regularly. Waited till it was dirty and then took it to the coin-operated DIY car wash. Slapped on whatever wax I had....RainX, Turtle Wax etc. Recently bought a new Sentra 1.8S. Wanted to keep it clean and shiny like it was in the showroom. Only washed and used Mother's Cleaner Wax on it. It looks better than it did at the dealer. That started me on wanting my '99 Explorer to look as good. Washed and clayed with the Mother's Clay bar and QD, and also ended with the Cleaner Wax. Looks good, but definitely could look better. After all my reading on AG, I've decided on the XMT/PC 7424 Swirl Remover Kit. Topping the XMT Finishing Glaze with Natty's Wax. I have some bird poop etching on my hood, roof and driver side door. My confusion is, do I order the Kit with the Intermediate, of the Light swirl remover. I've read that PB SSR2.5 worked great with etching and saw the video on it too. So, is it comparable with XMT#3 or #2?

i think xmt 3 would be like PB ssr3. ssr2.5 would be more like xmt2 i think.
 
Ok let me make a small adjustment on that...
XMT3 would be more like SSR 2.5
 
I have used SSR 2.5 with a white pad with great success on my wife's Explorer's hood. Had a lot of etched water stains and swirls, came off with a single pass.
 
dang i was wrong... i didnt think ssr2.5 was quite that aggressive, but ive never used it like i said

actually i think i wanna order some PB's ssr soon. toss up between that and the xmt... i just hate the small bottles! you need to make like gallon jugs of this stuff!

The kit's an excellent choice. I'd go with the intermediate kit and then just get the XMT #2 on the side. Then you will have the pc, all your pads and mf's and all the polishes. Depending on how deep the etching goes you might be able to get away with the 2, but if it's deeper then you will need the 3. If you get the 2 on the side you'll have all your bases covered. It's best to start with the least aggressive pad/product combo first and move up in aggression if needed. Just my 2 cents.

No seriously always best to start with a less aggressive and work up if you need to.

I have SSR2.5 and I can tell you it dusts like crazy. The results are good, but it's hard to tell because my car is covered with polishing dust afterward. I usually end up cleaning the pad a lot or washing the car again afterward. I would give the XMT series a shot. I've heard it dusts much less. I think that's what I'm going to try next.
 
It does!! I have used the XMT 2 and 1 so far and there was very minimal dusting! :) Still trying to find a candidate to use the #3 on! :)

Thanks guys!! That's what I'll do. Start with #2 and if any stubborn spots, go over that with #3.

The SSR2.5 dusts, but it's not _that_ bad. Don't you usually have to wash the car anyways after doing any kind of swirl removal to ensure proper bonding?
 
i go over it with rubbing alcohol to ensure nothings on the surface, no need to fully wash the car
 
Where do you get rubbing alcohol and how do you apply?

Get it at any local store, get yourself a spray bottle like one below and dilute it and just spray the vehicle and wipe off with a microfiber towel.

Wouldn't using a QD or a Waterless Wash yield the same results?
