I was one of the lucky winners of the new formula XMT Gel Shampoo/Conditioner & 360 Spray Wax. So I’d like to thank AG for that. I received the products on Wednesday. After getting things underway on Thanksgiving morning I slipped outside for awhile to do some testing.
I should preface that I am an XMT fan already but tried my best to be as objective as possible. One of the main reasons I like their products is that they work well in the sun where I wind up doing most of the work. I try other products but always seem to gravitate back to the XMT line for everyday use.
I wound up testing 2 cars, both daily drivers. The first was a black metallic 1998 Ford Escort ZX2 which I used the Megs MF system on not quite a month ago & hasn’t been washed since. The other is a red metallic ’04 Kia Optima. This had the WG twins done in Sept & is washed weekly. I did the same tests on both cars.
XMT Gel Shampoo & Conditioner
First obvious difference between the old & new formula is the color. The new is yellow and looks fluorescent when put into the water. The old was blue. It has a soapy, detergent like, clean smell. (If that makes sense.) But not harsh.
I put the gel shampoo into the bucket first then sprayed in water. Foamed up nicely but I didn’t have a bucket full of foam w/ no water. I used a mf wash mitt to wash. When rinsing, the water did seem to sheet off more as compared to the original gel wash. (I’ve been using the original formula for awhile since I purchased a gallon so that’s all I have for comparison.)
XMT 360 Spray Wax
Again the first thing is the color. The new formula is pink w/ a berry smell. (The original is green w/ a lime smell.) It is very easy to use. Simply mist an area, spread the product then buff it. It produced a great shine with exceptional smoothness to the surface. While you do get enough product with just a mist or two, it is a pump type sprayer that's not adjustable which I'm not a fan of.
After washing I thought the paint felt smooth. So I did a test spot of wash only, original 360 and then new 360. Obvious difference between wash only & original which I expected. What I didn’t expect was a difference between the 2 spray waxes. But there was a noticeable difference. Not drastic but it was there. The new formula produced a smoother surface. I even had a “non-detailer“ check as well to make sure it just wasn’t just me being overly optimistic. Smoothness verified by an independent judge.
On to the results:
Products used
Left-New Formula / Right-Original
Escort Hood B4
Soaped hood - There was more foam but the sun was drying them quickly so I had to hurry w/ the pic.
Rinsed after wash
Left after wash
1/4 panel after wash & spray wax
Hood reflection after spray wax. The spots are acid rain or w/e happens to a 13yr old car. After washing I finally got the bright idea to get the canopy out.
Left door reflection
'04 Kia Optima

Rinse after wax
I like the way the water sheets off the cars using the gel shampoo. Remember though that they had the Megs & WG done to them fairly recently so I wonder how it would be on an 'untreated' car. And I am definitely impressed w/ the 360 spray wax especially since I could feel a difference between the original & the new formula. Already being someone who uses the XMT line makes it easy for me to recommend both products.
Again thanx to AG for the awesome products. Now I think it's time for a turkey sandwich. :coolgleam:
