XMT 360 - worth a claybar beforehand?

Well, the rain ceased and the brick layers finished early so I got to go try it out! i did a clay bar first before I used the 360 and I have a few questions...

From what I've read, you put it on with your pad polish away, and it just disappears. No buffing required. once I started it was taking FOREVER for this stuff to go away. it was just moving around on the hood. After 20 minutes of doing the hood (4 sections) I guess the pad was still wet from being washed (CSS green) and opened up the grey pad and it helped take everything away. Then I tried white and it worked much better, but it STILL wouldn't make the 360 go away. i ended up switching between white and grey for the rest of the car, and ended up finishing with the grey for the roof and bumpers. After moving on from the hood I ended up carrying a MF towel with me to buff what wouldn't go away, and once finished I slapped a wool pad and a MF bonnet on my porter to make sure it was all gone. I tried changing my style, even using it over a larger section than what was in the directions, and then decreasing the amount used, but I couldn't find a happy median. It still needed buffing.

How long are you supposed to polish before it goes away? I was spending over 5 minutes on each section before giving in to buffing the spots left over.

I read the green pad was the one to use, but even though it felt dry I think it was still wet. White/Grey ok to use for this? Also, mini's have special pores in the body that eject water just before you run over it with your porter. I think water was the cause of my misery today.

is it normal to follow up with a MF towel to touch up everything? even doing the MF bonnet and touching up the whole car afterwards? I didn't have to touch up alot, maybe 5-10%

The car looks great right now, but it's in the garage and the sun has gone down. the real test is going to be at the show tomorrow where in direct sunlight my car shows it's defects and swirls (cause by the dealer, long story). It's funny because I can go to a show on a over cast day and score 20/20 on the exterior one weekend, then go to another show the next weekend on a sunny day, run by the same club and same judges, and be docked 2-3 points on the exterior. It drives me nuts. I hope it turned out ok becuase I'm exhausted from :buffing: all day. I'll report back with pictures tomorrow on how it turned out.

Im able to make it disappear after 1-3 passes.

Sounds like you used way too much product. Cut it in half! I agree with D & D.

How much would you use to do a fairly large door? I cut down how much I was using through out the car, but it was still taking a long time to disappear and required buffing the last 10%.

Probably about a nickel size amount. Or make an X on the pad with the product, not too thick either, about the size of the hole it comes out of.

Cut the door in half, dont do the whole thing at once. Use a nickel sized amount per half. Move very slowly.

thanks for the tips! I will keep these in mind for next time. The car looked GREAT in the sun. There were only a few small blemishes and small scratches that would have required something a little stronger, but I was VERY impressed with the results. Will definitly be using this again.

First place out of 4 mini's :righton:

XMT360 disappears after one slow pass with my PC on 6 for me. It also seems to correct better on 6 than on 5.

I've never been able to make it completely disappear where I didn't have to wipe at all.. Always get about 95% of the way though.
