I got a detail over the weekend with yellow paint from a newly painted road all over the wheel wells. There was probably more paint in the wheel wells than left on the roadway. I tried a lot of different pproducts and had no luck. I finally went to a plastic razor blade and it took most of the day. Does anyone know the best ways to remove highway paint?

Why did you try?

I have had success with:

Enamel paint reducer.
Lacquer thinner (Use sparingly).

I washed the car with power washer to remove any loose paint then I tried tarminator and goof off with plush micro fibers. The goof off worked really well and the tarminator worked ok. Hope this helps

simple buy 2 cans of underwheel spray on they will look like new in 15 minutes. i speak from experience. looks brand new. napa or any auto parts house will have this

Thanks for the advice. I tried tarminator, goof off, Tar-X, and Mineral Spirits all with no luck. The plastic razor blade and about 3 hours worth of work was the best option I found. I should have tried the underwheel paint.

I always check these threads for an update or in hopes that one day someone will go, "hey, I know what's in there!"

Years ago I had the same problem. I tried everything and nothing worked. Finally, one winter months later, I kick a bunch of caked up snow/ice/road salt/calcium brine mixture (?) out of the wheelwell, and, VOILA! all of the yellow paint was gone with it, stuck to the ice.

This is in NJ/PA/DE, mostly NJ. I'm not 100% sure what they use on the roads, but I imagine it's some kind of mix between the salt and the calcium brine solution.

:dunno:

Believe it or not, I've had good look with Xenit.
