I'm just addressing the 2 Packages. IMO other things need attention as well.

Too much repitition in the service details. I'm guessing to justify package 2 costs you mean machine polish paint with a one step cleaner and wax or wax only. If you clay then cars will require some polishing and wax protection.

Some things I believe most customers will not understand. Apply UV protection to dash and trim. Means spray with 303 and wipe. Clay bar treatment most will need an explanation.

I believe in KISS. If you are providing a car washing service to clean the car then clean the car. I don't need to kknow there were bugs on the bumper/grill or dirt in the gas cap. Just clean it then point out the details when you deliver the car. If the condition of the car requires more than normal time to do the job that's what the upcharges are for. Show the before and after pictures.

I respectfully disagree. Just because "A" detailer charges more doesnt mean that he knows what hes doing. Its not about pricing, its about what kind of work you put down. Theres self proclaimed "professional" detailers that make you wonder how they are still in business just by looking at some of the things they post, and the questionable work they produce.

You gotta walk before you run, remember that ;)

I don't know if we disagree or not..

I'm not saying that just because you have a high price that people will think you do good work, obviously this isn't always going to be true. I just don't agree with starting off with super cheap prices because you have less experience. This will only get you crappy customers IMO, people looking for deals. In most cases they don't care about quality, they are just happy that their car is shiny and you were cheap. I would set your prices based on what prices are in your market for the kind of work you want to do. Just because another guy has 10 years experience does not mean that he can do a better job than you, so why wouldn't you want to get the same amount of money as him?

Just remember this...match your services to your customer. Not everybody cares about a full show car detail. Instead, focus on selling wash and wax packages and maybe offer a few express (30 minutes or less, about $50 extra) services to boost your income.

Keep this in mind...you can wait around for one person to buy a $200 full detail, or you could be out selling 10 $50 details and make a whole lot more money.

Be patient and really feel out the market, I promise you that you'll end up adjusting your prices several times before you find a happy medium between what you need to profit and what your customers like to pay.

And, if you haven't yet, I suggest you pick up Renny Doyle's book, "How to start a home-based car detailing business." It is fantastic and full of information that you're looking for.

Good luck!

Thanks a lot for the inputs guys, helps out a lootttt.

1) i have the "how to start a home based car detailing business" book on its way ;)

2) i am going to lower the price on package 2.. by far the the package 2 process is not new to me, but since this will be as a business gig now, i agreed it would be better to start a tad lower

3) as far as KISS.. on all the packages that are provided, there will be annotations on the terms customers wouldnt understand..explaining what the process is.

4) For package 1, there is no protection. id be using CGV7. just to give the car a temporary shine. because if i would put a wax, i would have to clay. extra step=more time=more money. maybe i could add an actual wax as an option? like i said though, that is THE MOST basic wash.

5) from the websites ive seen, all detailers post package after package with just add ons. for example
P1= wash, tire shine, vacuum
P2= wash, clean wheels, tire shine, vacuum
P3= wash, clean wheels and tires, dress tires and wheels, vacuum

of course that was just an example lol but you guys get what im saying. every package a detailer provides is just adding more features

This is why i only posted 2 packages. theres just so much to take into consideration with these kinda things.

i would of replied by post, but internet was down at home and now its just to many lol hopefully you guys still reply again :D

and idk if its me or something, but CM86MT is always trying to pick on me lol

I pick on everyone, your not special.

lolol yeah no worries though

and yes, for now, im focused on selling the most basic deals i can push out to bring income. i actually put in my 2 weeks in at discount tire to have the morning hours open.
the next day my manager tells me he wants me to do a full interior to his truck and wifes expedition, other coworker wants me to do a full interior on his GFs car, and another guy wants me to do basic wash, wax, and light cleaning on interior. :)

Cant agree more! Proof is in the groupon deals. No BS, we have a high rate of repeat customers. An average day for us has at a minimum of 50% repeat customers sometimes reaching into 100%. Out of almost 100 groupons sold, we had ONE repeat. I am also an up-sell king.. i can upsell virtually anyone but since these groupon people already paid, it was always the same thing "no thanks, just what i purchased please!" :buffing:. AND to top it all off, they barely tipped too.

Cheap people want cheap.. whomever gives it to them will get their business BUT its not always worth it. There's detailers in the area who only survive off groupons or whatever. IMO let them work for free and price yourself with what you feel your worth and always exceed expectations. Word of mouth will follow with repeat customers who pay with a smile on their face versus a scowl because you were cheap and it shows in yor work.
