Yesterday was my first day at......

In Florida the law was recently changed, before we were not allowed to shoot if they had their back to you and were moving in a direction "out" of the crime. Now we are allowed to BLAST 'em and ask question later. Sure we have to be scared for our lives, but if someone is in your home late at night (without invitation) then I believe it is my right to ASK QUESTIONS LATER !! I gurantee I wont be in your home uninvited and stealing your hard earned valuables or looking to harm your family. I expect the same courtesy and will enforce it as necessary.

yes well put, im with you on this one...

any idea where I can find the laws in my state regarding this?

Man I wanna go to the shooting range. Glad you had fun! Makes me wanna go to the range even more :p

apply for a concealed permit, you must know the law and are tested in most states.

I dont feel that a shotgun is best for home defense for a couple of reasons.

1. Size -- it is not easy to conceal and something very hard to pull from under bed in case of emergency. Kids can also usually get to these easier as much more visible.

2. Spray -- the farther you fire in a shotgun, usually there is more spray or spreading of the penetration point. If your loved one or children come around the corner on an intruder you want dead center only.

I find for home defense a good .45 caliber handgun with a reasonable size barrel and Glazzers or other stoping bullet to be the best choice. Easily concealed, easily grabbed, and not as easily found by assailant. Add in a bullet that is designed to stop at bone, and use the shaddering effect to reak complete damage is a better option personally.

And while I agree the sound of a shotgun is harrasing and scary at the other end, your not always going to want to alert someone to your position and abilities.

I agree with the shotgun.....would never be comfortable unloading in my house with children also there. I've got a .40 Caliber Springfield 1911 with a couple of clips full of Corbon rounds(nightstand), with weapon nearby to put an intruder out of business;)

Wytstang---try the Springfield XD next time you're there, see if your wife likes it. It fits very comfortably and will likely be my next gun. I agree that the Baretta is a BIG grip and uncomfortable to shooters with smaller hands.

dengood I was actually planing on renting that line next. I found a thread on autopia about hand guns and the Springfield XD was well liked. And a CW license is on the list.

I'd use a Deagle for home defense, just kidding! It does look intimidating though :p. I'd go for a small gun like a USP compact or something for home defense...

I'll probably take it to the range to make sure everything works properly :D ;). For some strange reason I haven't been able to put the darn thing down. I've been missing with it for some time and still ain't bored.

Might as well take it apart and put it back together. Thats fun. Got one exactly like that except its a littel more used/abused. (duck hunting) Thing has been under water, caked in mud, etc and a good cleaning afterward and it shoots like new. Is it a 3" or 3.5"? Looks nice!

It cycles 2 3/4" and 3" magnum shells.
