Just wanting to make sure I'm really using the right combo of pad/product before I jump into working on my car with more aggressive products than I have in the past. For the Wolfgang finishing "glaze" (I know it's really more polish than just glaze) it says in the instructions on the site to use a soft foam finishing pad which to me means gray or even blue, however the picture is showing it being used with a white polishing pad which is definitely more aggressive. So uh, which one is right?

the question you should ask yourself is, which one is right for you? white pad with WGFG is not wrong by any means, it all depends on the job at hand. but i like to go by the rule of thumb when it comes to polishing, Start with the least aggressive method first, and always do test spots before you go in. so use a grey pad and do 1 test spot, then a white pad right next to it, and see if you can tell a differance in results. then go with what you thought was better. but seeing you got a nissan Z, i would go gray pad.

They're both right- I think it would depend on the condition of the paint, type of paint, etc. If you start by using blue/black and the level of correction isn't enough- step it up.
I often have to remind myself there is no exact science to this. You could actually use the white to clear up any haze or holograms, use this same product with a softer pad for jeweling...

Are you saying the Z has soft paint? I've seen comments both ways on Nissan paint so I'm not sure. I'm going to be using the wolfgang twins on it soon though to get rid of 2 1/2 years of fine scratches/swirls that have been slowly building (23K daily driver). I definitely plan on using the TSR with a white pad first, just trying to figure out the right pad for the FG since the instructions on the AG page were confusing with saying one pad and showing another.

I had the same confusion at one time. When they say "finishing", they mean finish polish (usually a white pad). You use the grey or blue pads after you finish. Makes perfect sense.

Here's what I used on my black Z4 today.
WGTS orange
WGFG white
WGPS blue

yes 1st gen z's have pretty soft paint. so it is good that your using the finishing glaze, although it may only serve its purpose on dark color paint. but use the grey pad. thats what finishing glaze is meant to be used with I.M.E

What years would you consider "1st gen"? Mine is a 2008, last model year for the 350 at least.

Hmmm, just talked to some guys on one of the big Z forums and they're saying the newer ones might be even softer  One person recommended m105 and the meg's yellow pad unless I had serious defects (which I don't think I do). So I'm thinking WGFG + gray or white is the max I will need on this car or maybe worst case some TSR on a white pad in a few "trouble spots" but not the whole car.

Just have a couple final questions on this before I get started this weekend. So, I have two each of orange, white, gray, blue LC CCS pads. I have in the past used the gray pads for SS II wax. I wash the pads with warm/hot water and Dawn but man is it hard to get the SS II out of the gray pad. If I were to use a gray pad for the WGFG would trace amounts of SS II cause any issue? I would be finishing with WGDGPS after. If there's a possibility it will cause a problem then I may just have to go with a white pad this time (considering the 2 1/2 years of fine swirls that's probably ok this time around) and get some extra gray pads for next time I use it.
