Yet another question on cleaning glasses on the car interior

Hello guys

I did some search on that but couldn't find anything very clear or conclusive to me...

I noticed my windsheld looks very dirty internally, a kind of fog. I believe it's due to the tons of dressing I use on my dash. Whenever I use a glass cleaner, it's very clear that it can't clean this dirt properly. Actually, can't clean it at all.

What would be the proper products and technics to clean this kind of dirt?

First cut back on the amount of dressing used on the dash. You only need a very thin coat of dressing. An overly saturated dash will continue to fog the window.

To help clean up the under side of the glass, I would use a glass designated polish such as the Wolfgang Perfekt Vision Glass Polish. Follow that up with Wolfgang Perfekt vision Glass Cleaner to ensure all polish residue is removed.

What glass cleaner are you using currently? I've always used Stoner's Invisible Glass and never had any issues with it not cleaning the glass.
 
I'm using a basic Mothers glass cleaner. There aren't too many options in Brazil.

But when I wipe with it in the internal side of the winshield, instead of getting that neat wipe which the cleaner evaporates quickly, It stays very "wet" on the windshield. Similar to as if you rinse a car that has never been waxed.
 
This could be caused by the type of towel you're using. A good MF towel works best, but you can also use newspaper. Depending on how dirty the inside of the windshield is, it could take a couple wipes to get it clean and streak free.
 
Coat your dash with an official interior coating instead of dressing it. Your windshield will not get so greasy. Personally, I use Pinnacle Black Label, but there are cheaper options such as, Wolfgang's interior coating.
 
Here is my method for cleaning glass as this area would always give me troubles. After search and talking with people who wash windows for a living I changed how I cleaned glass.

I will say that if you haven't used Sonax Glass Cleaner yet you owe it to yourself to give it a shot. With any Sonax product less is ALWAYS more. You never need to use a ton of product and if you are you are only wasting it.

What you will need:

Sonax Glass Cleaner

Glass Towel (I use Sonax Towels AG doesn't carry)

Unger Squeegee with black rubber cleaning blade



Step 1.



Look at your glass! You want to examine your glass so you know where more dirt or film maybe than in other areas.

Step 2



Spray a light even coat of the SOnax Glass cleaner over the entire area that you will be cleaning.

Step 3.



Take your glass towel and go over the entire surface of the area you are cleaning. Since I was doing the windshield I went over the entire windshield all at once. At this point we want to use the towel to remove the film and dirty areas. We are not focusing on leaving it streak free. We are agitating the dirt on the glass.

Step 4



After you have cleaned the glass with the towel now spray another light coat of glass cleaner over the area you are cleaning.

Now, take your cleaning squeegee and start at the top and move from one side to the other. After each pass you want to use a towel or a shop towel to clean the blade and dry the blade. On the next pass over lap the previous pass by 50%. Continue this until you have the window cleaned.

Most people only use glass polish on the outside glass but I've come across cars with a film on the inside glass that was so stubborn that a regular spray on glass cleaner would not remove the film.

What I did was use glass polish on the inside and then follow this with a regular spray on glass cleaner to remove all the polishing oils and miscellaneous carrying agents in the glass polish.

I have a car in the garage right now that's from 1961 and it looks to need the glass on the outside and on the inside polished so I'll take some pictures of how I do this today.
