War Powers are intended to be balanced between Congress and the Presidency. The U.S. Constitution empowers the president to wage wars as commander in chief. Congress has the power to declare wars and fund them. Since the President commands the military and "possession is 9/10ths of the law" :-)..... generally speaking a President tends to lead and act faster than any Congress can work. Therein lays the beauty and danger at the same time.

My interpretation of the video is that they both expected to approach the "line of demarcation" between each branch's authority for War Powers before that session ever started. They solved nothing besides queueing up more conversation for another day (bishops and knights being positioned on the chessboard).

The congressman acted surprised and resentful of Panetta's statements. That's how one would be expected to react when they already know they don't have the power of the Presidency. Lastly, we all paid for that meeting.

Bush needed NOONE'S permission on 9/12, the bombers were on their way, thankfully! IIRC there was one person who voted against us to attach Afganastan, can't remember her name but she's a black Democrat from Cali with a hyphen in her name, ofcoarse a hyphen. Bush didn't need to wet his finger to see how the polls were reading, he acted, that's what leaders do.

The congressman is an experience politician so I doubt he was surprised. As I understand it, he was elected around 1996 so he knows Washington. It was a bit of political theater for to maintain his public criticism of government since he goes to his base.

Some did not like Bush, an equal number did not like Obama, so I guess everything is even.

I agree with Klasse Act but don't think any less of anyone for thinking differently. Most of my friends vote differently than I do but they are able to respect my opinion and mine theirs.

I can't fathom how some people think the way they do but politics and religion really shouldn't affect how you view someone on a personal level.

Honestly I didn't think it was a republican vs democrat thing when I posted that video but surprised people don't see between the lines of what Leon was saying.

I think after a bunch of posts dragging party and past and Bush into it it might be fair for someone to have a different opinion no???

Having said all that I am fully happy with the mods deleting this thread.
 
Has may have been $1.84 when he left office but the other HIGH was while he was IN office. Summer of 2008 to be exact. That said, who is President really has little effect on what the prices are.

The majority of the media and Hollywood (not that it matters here) are Democrats. If it makes them look bad you don't hear from them, but if it makes the Republicans look bad then that's all you hear.

The first spike in gas prices came shortly after Hurricane Katrina. Taking out the Gulf was not enough disruption to cause such spikes but was an excuse that could be used. People preached about price gouging so much that the president said he would look into it and the prices came down. Why hasn't this happened with the current administration? Until the oil/fuel costs are regulated our economy will have a very tough time recovering. The housing market was just a scapegoat. Suddenly you have people that drive a lot and refueling doubles, now people have to decide - do I pay this mortgage that I had previously budgeted for or do I fill my tank so that I can continue going to work? Poor money management? Absolutely.

The fact that he side stepped the question? Not once did he say they would seek congressional approval, only foreign approval.
