Your fav start over shampoo

Let's see some pictures of the "orange" on the paint...... no telling what it could be.... maybe bug guts..... bird poop.... or maybe some sort of berry from trees.... Also, don't forget to use some type of "bug/tar" remover with the appropriate media.

Will get some later. Bug and tar is next. If there is no wax on the car, is a citrus APC fine for bug and tar? I guess what I'm asking is whether or not bug and tar is a gimmick, no offense.

Clay is in the near future too for this car if I get motivated enough

I use denatured alcohol for sap; Stoner's Tarminator for tar; Poorboys Bug Squash for bugs. I wouldn't say anyone is a 'gimmick'. To me, they are the least aggressive way to remove what they're intended for. The only one I would pass on is the Bug Squash if the bug remains come off easy during the wash.

I get your point. I have a few products that I often pass on because there is a quicker product or method that works as well or close enough. I just don't consider these products in that class (Except like I said, sometimes the bug remover).

Oh, and one more thing. If you're looking for a car wash that cleans real well, you might want to try P21s Total Auto Wash (referred to as TAW on the board). 10:1 in a spray bottle or 20:1 in a pump sprayer as a prespray. It will clean a lot of stuff up safely. I love that stuff.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll have to add a bug/tar to my inventory. My Stang is so clean I've never needed a specific product for that but I could use it for my daily GTI along with the Jeep. Do the bug/tar removers strip wax and sealants typically? Is that a dumb question?

I'll check out the P21S shampoo. I love their wheel cleaner gel for wheels that only need a little bit of work.

On my gti, I have a coat of BFWD from about a three weeks ago. For maintanience washing, I was using Mr. Pink so as to not strip the sealant. Since you guys are very pro CG shampoos, what would you recommend for my GTI that would be a little more powerful than Mr pink but won't strip the sealant? I have all the CG shampoos in my collection to choose from

I have been using V07 shampoo this summer as my weekly maintence wash. Love it and leaves a nice wet looking shine. 2oz in a bucket. Doesn't foam as good as honeydew or CWG but for a 2 bucket mitt wash I'm loving the soap.

The orange spots are iron deposits from your brake pads. Get some Iron X or 3D BDX to spray on the entire paint to decontamination. It will make the job 100 times easier. Then clay.

P21 TAW has always been my go to. I spray undiluted give it a minute or so and then wash the area with reset. works pretty good for me.

Gunna place an order for some IronX today. Feedback Much appreciated.

Idriveblackcars, I forgot about my VO7 shampoo. Had it all the way in the back. I normally use that in my well maintained daily. Not sure if it's strong enough for a dirty car but on a well maintained car, I agree the shine is nice. I use that on my GTI and Mr Pink on my mustang

I use a couple different soaps depending on the job. I have CG Citrus, Mr. Pink, V07, and Honey Dew. I just ordered a gallon of Meguairs Hyper wash to try.

Have you guys used IronX Trix Tar and Iron remover? Would help me with both situations in one. If not, cherry or Lemon IronX if either makes a difference.

CG 's Clean Slate gets it done like nothing else .ditto on APC caution .I got some run streaks on trim .I had let it dwell .Might be a bit agressive on painted surfaces .

If you use Iron-X, get either scented version. The unscented version will make you gag.....and again!!😷

Round 2. Presoaked wheels with a CG APC and Pinnacle Bodywork Shampoo mix. Agitated with a cheap wheel brush. Rinsed. Came out brand new.

Then rinsed and presoaked the car with the same mixture. Rinsed and used a 2BM with CG Citrus Wash. Dried. Finished with quick spray of CG VO7 Optical Spray. I did not like this spray on blue mustang but it looks great on white. The Jeep is now about as clean as I can get it with a wash alone I think.

This is how we started a few days ago:

I'm taking my time with this project. I have CarPro Trix on the way for the iron and tar. Once that is removed, quick clay and then some Poorboys Polish+Sealant or Black Diamond. Yet to decide.

CG has a new stripping soap called clean slate. It's only purpose is to strip the surface of any wax or sealant. Won't hurt coatings.

Have you tried CG Clean Slate before? One ounce is really enough for five gallons in a bucket and still strong enough to strip polishing oils, glazes, waxes and sealants? Dang, may have to try it out. Could you also use it as clay lube also?

I got the email a month after the last post. So, where were we...

Oh yeah, cleaning cars with a lot of embedded dirt.

Another thought to add to the discussion is Klasse AIO. You don't have to use it on dry paint. Put a cap-full into a bucket with a couple gallons of water. Pre-wash a panel with rinseless and while it's still wet take a drenched rag from the AIO bucket, put some more AIO one it and gently (or more firmly?) go to work. Dry when you're done and the panel will probably be as clean as your going to get it pre-polishing.

Check out the recent review done by forum member Loach on this soap.

Anyway, it's a newer white Jeep Cherokee. It's gunna need some elbow grease to get all the bugs and crap off it but I'm up for it. So what do you guys use for soap when someone brings in a newer car that needs a good washing? Once it's clean, I'll seal it with BFWD or Poorboys so it stays that way for awhile.

If it's never been fully decontaminated I with Clay and chemicals both, I wouldn't seal it up until you've done that.

  • Wash with Gold Class Wash or your choice of product
  • Hit it with Car Pro Tri-X or at least Iron-X followed by a tar remover or mineral spirits where needed
  • Nano Sponge or clay (if you're old-school) it with a medium sponge in very soapy water. I use Gold Class in a 1 gal bucket
  • I would Air Dry the vehicle with a blower to avoid any further marring of the paint
  • Double check the vehicle for any remaining contaminants
  • Proceed to buffer with appropriate polish
  • THEN seal it up.

On a Jeep the above could take you 5-7hrs depending on your experience, buffer and products used. It's a ton of work at first, but going forward you won't every really have to do much except perhaps a very light polish and wash. In between you may end up using Iron-X or an occasional Nano Sponge where needed. Usually on the tailgate and rear bumper area but that may only be in the spring.

If all of that is too much then I suppose you could seal it up after washing and decontaminating it but that's ultimately your call.

IMO if you're going to try and remove old wax, decontaminate and hit it with denatured alcohol and water or 3D Eraser then polish. Maybe back in the day Dawn took off waxes and sealants but IMO that's always been a fairy tale.

CG Citrus gloss is my fav in which I use the foam cannon to soak the car first then I wash it with Mr. Pink 2 Bucket method
