I am curious how you tackle your inside outside detailing projects. Do you have a method to your madness or do you switch it up? Is there a proper or more logical method that should be followed?

What takes your focus from beginning to end?
 
I do the interior first. After all that goes into claying and sealing a car the last thing I want to do is clean the inside. I clean my wheels before I clean the rest of the exterior.
 
If its cold out carpets get done first

Other then that I have the same routine on every car
 
Interior first, then wheels, then engine if it is getting done and finally exterior wash. Dress wheels and trim and then dress engine if it got steamed.
 
Wash first(wheels then paint), door jambs and closings, interior windows, dash, seats, then carpets.

Flash makes a good point of doing the carpets first if it is cold out. It will give them more time to dry while doing other tasks.

Windows first - Always first, then exterior, then windows again, then inside windows, then interior, then inside windows again, then I do the outside windows.

I will summarize:

1) Exterior Wash (body, jams, mats/carpets, engine, clay)

2) Interior

3) Polish/Wax
 
In general, this is the order of execution..


  1. Interior
  2. Wheels & Tires
  3. Wheel wells
  4. Engine compartment
  5. Exterior
While this may look simple but there are subgroups within each.....

Ok real answer :

Exterior -

1)Rims,tires,wheel wells (tires first) cleaned and shined
2)paint
3)windows and britework (metal)

Interior -
1) First vac
2)pretreat while equipment heats up
3)Blast cracks and crevices with steam
4)second vac if needed
5)carpets n upholstery steamed
6) APC everything
7)Shine everything
8)Windows
9)Final vac

Plus everything else I forgot about.
 
I am not a pro, but when I start on my cars, it always begins with washing the exterior.

If you dont mind could you lay out the subgroups? If isn't to much to ask.

LOL, I dont have a plan this is why I am asking you all. I took a interest in all of this 3 days ago. Im the MAN

But if I had to put a plan it would be.

Interior-
Wipe everything down getting in the nooks and cranys.
Vaccum

Exterior-
Clean Rims, Tires, Wheel Wells
Wash top to bottom
Door Jams
Dry
Wax

Final-
Clean glass inside and out
Tire Shine

But I am sure there is rhyme and reason to doing things proper and being efficient.
 
Interior
.Wipe down interior(Dash,console,seats)
.Apply UV protection on interior
.Clean int windows
.Vacuum
Exterior
.Clean wheel wells,tires,wheel
.Wash & dry exterior
.Dress trim & tires
.Clean windows ext windows

Windows (you can use the damp cloth afterwards to wipe down interior)
Wipe everything down getting in the nooks and cranys.

Final-
Clean outside glass
Tire Shine < No!

You do know your going to need a DA Polisher eventualy, right?!?!?
