your way to make silver stand out

Holy, that silver looks almost chrome from here!

Nice ride mate.

Thanks for the tips guys. Might give it and extra polishing step and apply a sealant on it. See how that works :)
btw, some nice cars :)

with optimum HC for compounding, Menz 203s for finishing and collinite 476s

the trick is to have the surface as flat as possible

I was able to one step this car with FG400 on my 3401 with an Orange Hybrid pad using my devoloped "Smack's technique" and it came out pretty good considering I was after more correction than overal finishing ability. As always, the gloss and reflection comes from the polishing step. I used OC2.0 as the LSP.

Here is an article I put together on using this technique.

Silver is not different from any other paint color in the fact that the process to get it to be glossy and pop is the same. Really good compound if needed, and really good polishing. Then top is with a high quality sealant or wax and it should shine and pop. White can do the same thing.

Anyone ever glazed and waxed a silver car?

I polished my daily driver with 3m ultra fine polishing compound then went over that with Meguir's show car glaze flowed up with a coat of carnuba wax I used up old products I had laying around worked out okay View attachment 26985

I used a rotary wheel with 3m blue polishing pads

When I owned a silver E46 BMW, I used both a high carnauba content wax and the Klasse twins at various times.

The wax provided a glow that made the car look like it was radiating light, while the Klasse provided a great reflective shine. Both looked great.

Good thread as my family owns 2 silver cars. I haven't used a DA yet but I hope to soon. Maybe I'll start with the wife's car first :) Any suggestions for polish and pad combo if paint is in really good condition with minimal swirls/scratches? I have no product now for either polishing, wax, or sealing so it would be nice to start off right.

Fyi one car is a 95 M3 the other is a 04 X3 both Silver. Anyone know if the clearcoat is hard or soft and again any suggestions on the appropriate polish would be greatly appreciated. Oh yeah I have Pinnacle clay & clay lube.

My recommendation is either Menzerna or Wolfgang products. Since you are looking to pick up new products that you dont have, I would grab FG400 and SF4000 from Menzerna or Uber and Finishing glaze from Wolfgang. Also for a standard DA I prefer the closed cell construction of the Hydro tech pads as the product wont saturate the pad nearly as fast as say the flat pads.

You also can adjust your aggressiveness of the compound and polishes by switching out different pads based on your test spot and what is needed to correct it.

Couldn't agree more. Regardless of color it all comes down to the prep. The LSP is the icing.
