The owner of this vehicle contacted me last year about having this special SSR detailed. He was concerned with the swirls in the paint and wanted them cleaned up so the car could look its best. After discussing various options we also settled on the CQuartz Finest Premium Paint Coating as the best means to protect the finish and maintain that "just detailed" look.

This vehicle is rarely driven (~25,000 miles on the odometer) and has never even seen rain, but it definitely needed some work. The paint was riddled with swirls, scratches, and holograms which created a duller appearance that simply lacked the 'pop' of nicely polished bright red paint. The paint on this Chevy turned out to be very hard and required an immense amount of compounding. This cutting phase was then refined with a finishing polish to truly enhance the gloss and clarity in the paint. After this tedious correction process, the surface was carefully cleansed and then coated with 2 thick coats of CQuartz Finest. The paint looked like an entirely different color... the photos don't do it justice.

After several days of work, and a total of ~20 hours of labor, I was glad to be finished with this one. It turned out great, and the owner was thrilled, which makes it all worthwhile.

Inspecting the paint in the sun after it had been thoroughly washed and decontaminated. Defects were easily visible.

Holograms were evident. These trails of defects that you see are created by buffing machines when used improperly. This is a clear sign of the poor job the detailer did before me.

My test spot yielded great correction results. The majority of defects were gone after much compounding and polishing, although many heavier defects remained.

Hood in the sun after correction. The majority of light to moderate defects were removed which greatly restored color and clarity to the surface. There were some deeper defects that remained, however these are much harder to spot even in direct lighting.

This 50/50 shot does a great job showing the difference in depth and color. The corrected area on the left is clearly deeper and richer color, and the outline of the reflections are much more crisp and clear.

Fender after multiple compounding passes. As I mentioned, this paint was very hard. Most of the vehicle was compounded twice and some areas three times! (A total of ~8-16 passes with very slow arm speed and rather high machine speed)

Here you can see more improvement after 2 sets of compounding passes, but this particular set of scratches weren't going anywhere.

After correction was completed, CQuartz Finest was applied and the paint took on a completely new appearance. It was like glass!

CQuartz Finest is truly an amazing coating. Within minutes it is hard enough that it begins to repel itself. I wiped a small amount of coating on this section to demonstrate these properties - notice the tiny beads of coating that had formed immediately after touching the surface.

After applying CQuartz Finest, the vehicle was pulled out into the setting sunlight for inspection. Looking great!

The vehicle was left to cure overnight and I finished up the smaller details the following afternoon. Here is the exhaust tips before polishing.

The tires had an extreme amount of tire dressing built up on them. There was so much old solvent based dressing on the tire that it formed a thick, dull layer of goo on the surface of the tire. Notice how much deeper and nicer the clean section on the right looks. Note: The right side has NOT been dressed yet. This is just from cleaning the tire!

As always, thanks for looking!

Great job as always Zach on the car, the pictures and the post. Thanks for sharing! :dblthumb2:

Looks immaculate. Great job Zach.

Nice work Zach! Another Beauty rolling out of your shop!!

Great job Zach. That paint looks awesome! How did you like using HD Cut and HD Polish?

Whoa, curve city!! That must have taken some time to polish!!

Excellent job, Zach!! :props: :dblthumb2:

HD POLISH is THE bomb!!

Dam, that red is on fire! Amazing work Zach!

Wow, I respect your work so much. Excellent photography and honest, no bull approach to showing us how you do things. I like how you show trouble areas as well, not just some pretty picture. You didn't just take a couple pics of the best panel and say, "look how good this came out!" You talk about issues with paint hardness etc.

The Cquartz looks incredible on that thing. I've got my first Cquartz job coming up this coming Monday on a Carrera 4S. Really excited to be offering the product.

Question: Do you feel like the LHR75E gets in pretty much all the intricate areas and has enough power? I'm a little torn between the pneumatic and electric.

Zach, I first saw a pic of this on FB and was looking forward to seeing the complete write up! You do incredible pics, so when you say they don't give it justice, I can only imagine!! Well done my friend!!!

Thanks Ian!

I really enjoyed the HD products. The most notable characteristics was the dusting, or lack thereof, as well as how easy the products wiped away. HD Cut may produce a tiny bit of dust (similar to FG400), but it was significantly less than the Meguiar's compounds. This was by far the easiest compound to remove that I have ever used. HD polish was also a dream to use - easily leveled micromarring with absolutely no dust, and it wiped away as easily as CarPro Reflect. I will definitely be using them more in the future!

Whoa, curve city!! That must have taken some time to polish!!

Excellent job, Zach!! :props: :dblthumb2:

HD POLISH is THE bomb!!
There were definitely a lot of challenging areas... glad it's over haha :dblthumb2:

Jeremy, thanks for the awesome feedback! I've got nothing to hide with my work - I like to show it as it is... this vehicle was a challenge, and despite the immense amount of work is no where near perfect.

Congrats on your first CQ job! Are you using Finest? or another CQuartz product?

The LHR75E is my favorite Rupes machine! With that being said, there is no way it was going to polish some of the extremely tight curves on this vehicle... that is something you need forced rotation for. I resorted to some hand polishing (which sucked). On the other hand, comparing the 75E to my previous 3" machine (PC7424XP)... well there is no comparison. The 75E does everything better than the porter cable!

Beautiful work Zach!!

Thanks Rich!! Red tends to be harder to photograph for me. The vibrant color can wash out some of the reflections/perceived gloss in the photos unless the lighting is just right.

WOW! What incredible talent you have!! Great Job!!
Thank you

Awesome Zach - I love reading through your write ups, not only for the great detailing results, but also for your photography work - something I am desperately trying to improve on.

Thanks for sharing:dblthumb2:

What is your technique for HD polish? I still havent been able to stop the dusting from it. Oddly enough, HD Adapt doesn't dust one bit on me and I love that aspect.

Nothing but great stuff from you my friend. That truck came out gorgeous. I see so many of those of here in South Florida, so unique. Good job and yes I agree, HD products are amazing.

Yep, I'm authorized for finest now. I've done quite a few opti coat pro jobs now, so I'm interested to see how they compare. I think both products probably have their own strengths.

Right now, I'm using a dewalt rotary with 3" bp for difficult tight spots, but the size of the machine is limiting and also tiring. I also have a 3" bp on my pc. This setup works fine for tight areas but I want more.

I'm probably going to replace my pc with the 75e. Obviously it's going to outperform it.

Even the 75e will have limits in tight spots with little clearance. For these areas I'm considering a TA50 or maybe a Rupes pneumatic Rotary. . .for more surgical areas.

HD Polish was simple to use... do not prime the pad, simply apply 4-5 pea size drops initially, and then 2-3 thereafter. Clean the pad regularly. Do not overwork. Absolutely no dust and it wiped off incredibly easy.

Welcome to the Finest team!!

A TA50 would definitely be a great investment. Rupes has an even smaller orbital sander (The 1" LD30) that would also be awesome. I have seen Richard Lin use this tool with great results.

I've seen that Richard Lin video as well. Very interesting.

Definitely... would be something I would consider if I had an air compressor. I hate those tiny spots that are impossible to get to with a 3" machine and hand polishing never produces good enough results.
