Optimum opti-coat 2 REALLY permanent?

thanks for answering

No Prob.

FWIW, I have their BC-02 coating and primer...they have several different coating offerings. I would just like to see some solid testing before buying into marketing claims and I was a bit put off by their fireworks video....

ZeroSP,
Thats a great looking Civic! What is that color called? Has the car been garage kept?
Thanks

Any data/testing to back that up with, or is this just your opinion?

FWIW I have Modesta sitting on my shelf with no real desire to try it...

No actual data testing, just observed testing. You have to remember we have 6-7 months of snow here, heavy road salts and gravel (more like crushed rock). People run their cars thru these washes twice a week. On cars that are a 2-3 years old, you see a lot of heavily oxidized paint (turned completely matte) around the smaller less exposed panels on the car and the general body is quite dull. Even though I haven't personally tried testing these coatings on my own car in these washes, I just feel if these washes do this to paint, it must destroy coatings (any and all brands, no favourites). I know others who have tried with no avail, but I am not crediting their claims because I don't know how it was applied or cared for.

As for the rims... They have been resprayed twice in engine block paint.

The Modesta was just a generalized statement. I want to try their wheel coating!

The color is called Sparkle Gray Pearl here.

And nope, although I wished I had a garage at home, here in my country a house that contains a proper garage is rare. Just park under the roof, where front and back still subject to sunshine and rain.

And it is my daily car, maintained with ONR weekly, and occasionally top with OID if I had the time. Tropical weather here.

I'm about to coat my car using Opti-Coat,question is will polishing remove it when it's time to polish dude to swirls?
Will it all removed ?
I ask this because my car is black and it a DD and darn near impossible in keeping it flawless no matter how hard I work at it.
Really don't mind if I had to coat it once a year, a solid year that is.

Depends on your polish, it will or will not be removed. I once used Makita Rotary with OHP, followed by Flex 3401 with OHP on my bonnet due to some swirls, and after some IPA wipedown. The beading is still there.

But I still tried to re-apply for assurance, I can say it is still there cause the Opti Coat streaks badly.

Being It's a DD polishing is something I have to do from time to time due to swirls.
Either way I'll coat it.

I know prep is key, but will the OC fill fine scratches? Does it have any properties that might hide minor paint defects?

Thanks, am I correct that it can't be topped with an LSP also?

As permanent as the clear coat on your vehicle. At some out without proper care and or too much cutting and buffing it will be removed and no longer be permanently attached to your vehicle.

I've read it's not recommend on glass.
What would happen if it was put on the windshield ?
I watched a few video's of people spraying it on with an air brush type setup, looked like it work very well but I'm sure it would take a lot of product for one car?

OC doesn't last on glass, that is why there is Opti Glass. Otherwise it is fine on glass. Just don't expect the same durability.

Ive had it on my car for over 1-1.5 years depending on the panel. My front bumper still beads like crazy and I did it last year and have never waxed it since, just wash. My doors also shed water very well still and I did them 1.5 years ago.

I called optimum today to ask about the their car soap.

I then asked them about Opti Coat durability, they said something along the lines of. There is always the possibility of wear and tear.

I then asked them, if a car was opti coated and then 100% garaged for 15 years. Would the coating still be there?

And they said yes.

(Don't remember the exact the conversation, I was just calling for the car soap) :)

hernandez,
Haha...how can a car be "100% garaged"?? Dont you ever drive it?

Have had it on my DD for 4 years+ and it is still as good as the clear coat paint. Here is the key, paint is considered "permanent" and to that end Opti-Coat 2.0 is "permanent. I tend to correct and re apply coatings on a fairly regular basis(it is a 2001 DD) so most coatings need to be redone after abrading the surface. Same deal would apply if wet sanding the clear coat to the point it needs a repaint. Optimum Gloss Coat is a better fit for me except for rims. Opti-Coat 2.0 rules for rims.
