Initial Review: Black Label Diamond Paint Coating

My question is how does this compare to opticoat? Having used waxes primarily, I'm ready to jump into the coating world...but I don't know if I can justify the extra $100 or so the elite kit will cost me in comparison to opticoat's price.

They are worlds apart as far as being user-friendly as well as gloss and smoothness/slickness on the surface. In these regards, Pinnacle coating is worlds better.

I think the real question that still needs to be found out is the protective quality and durability of the pinnacle coating. In regards to opti-coat its been proven over and over that its a very substantial coating that LASTS and LASTS. The only downside is the grippy/rubbery feeling of the paint, the tricky application of the product and the very (and I mean VERY) sterile shine that it leaves. It also has issues with water spots etching in extremely quickly.

Pinnacle applies and removes pretty much easier than any product including wax. It leaves an extremely glossy and wet looking shine, and the paint is super slick and feels smooth to the touch. The only downside is that its not yet proven to be able to last 3 years or significant beading and sheeting. With Opti-Coat you know for absolute certainty that if you get the paint clean and decontaminated, your paint is going to bead and sheet like the day it was applied.

If I was a professional and was upcharging for a coating application I would feel more confident using Opit-coat. As an enthusiast for my personal car I would much rather use Black Label coating for the benefits I described above.

hope that helps

First off, Happy Thanksgiving! Second, yes it does! Now the only other question is what to do when one doesn't have a garage? I mean, I have one, and I guess I could clean the perimeter of mine out (easier said than done) and try to put the car in there but I usually work outdoors.

Perfectly said. IF I was a detailer I would do opti coat so I can sleep easy. But on my personal car Black Label all the way. I plan to not use anything on my 2001 TL to really test out the durability... Time will tell..

Update

After 2 month the car has sat outside and driven 3 to 4 times a week.

I was going to wash the car new years day, since there was alot of dust, dirt, and bird crap that accumulated on the paint.

Well.... Last night we got some good rain and did a great job of cleaning the car up:righton:

Some beading pics of the rain from last night.

Thanks for all the hard work and sharing with us.

I never could tell much difference between the PBL and the DP in the pics. Do you still feel they are reasonably even regarding performance and durability?

I agree with you the difference is not noticeable in the pics, the observation I have seen in person are in the beading, but that really means nothing except the “wow” factor of tighter beading from PBL. Both sides stay clean and are just as easy to wipe off the bugs and dust/dirt after a month. Like I stated earlier the biggest difference I saw was in application, the PBL was so much easier to apply and spread (and used less product). If you have the DP sitting on your shelf use it, if you have $70 bucks burning a hole in your pocket buy the PBL PC:dblthumb2:……Or throw a party

That's very well said.
I have always been a coating person, ever since i learned about their existence.

I don't plan on coating any cars anytime soon, as my cars are already coated, however i couldn't pass up the 20% off they was offering throughout the holidays.

I really hope this new coating will last as long as they said which is 3 years. If that is the case, then it is pretty darn good.

PS: I have always used OC 2.0 on wheels. However i did apply it on a Black Mini Cooper, and it is my gfs car. Yet there is no more "Beading" when i wash the car, however after i am done washing it, the paint is still very shiny and clean looking..... So i don't even know if OC is still on there. It is less than a year since its application.
