All new Lincoln mkc

I love the intro. Everyone knows what Lincoln needs to do, but Ford won't pony up the money for the engineering. I remember when the Lincoln LS came out with rear wheel drive, V8, and an optional stick shift. I thought they were starting in the right direction. They need at least one unique car platform.

I think there are a few of us left who would like a V8, RWD and a manual transmission on something other than a sports car. I wouldn't mind a 4 door sedan or even an SUV configured like that. You can't even get a pickup truck from Ford or Chevy with a a manual transmission anymore! Shame!

The only problem here, well not really one but the optional 5 spd was only available with the 3.0L DOHC putting down 220 hp. Making matters worse is the 3.9L V8 only made 32 more horsepowers, ofcoarse more torque and by the time they got another 28 hp people moved on.

They (Merc) need to source those old Aussie Fords and bring them over here, works for GM, why not Lincoln?

here is what I say,
mks-new ecoboost, use carbon fiber and aircraft aluminum -Use expensive stuff, its a Lincoln

Mkt will be killed in 2016

MKR-needs to come into production Rwd 4 door , ecoboost v8 ,maybe a diesel in the future?

navigator-will be getting 3.5l ecoboost, hopefully weight reduction, could use aircraft aluminum and carbon fiber

Mkx-lose weight, better steering, new features retuned engine

Actually like this car. Think Lincoln is going in a better direction but time will tell.

The mkz is very nice. Definitely one of the nicer cars they've produced recently.

I could see that come back if GM relaunches the Cheyenne.

I think Lincoln needs at least something to try to compete with the Chevy SS (that's only planning on selling 3K units)

The new MKZ is a cool looking car. I think Cadillac, Mopar, Mercedes, BMW have proven that with new technology in stability and traction control even marginal drivers can handleRWD in the snow.
Yeah the Lincoln LS was a step in the right direction, maybe a half step. It left a lot to be desired mechanically. Why they did not use their DOHC 32 valve mark8 and cobra engine I'll never understand.

My buddy and I were talking about that new Lincoln and its supposed to have a "Lincoln exclusive" engine, hmmm, wonder what that's going to be, surely Ford isn't going to make something that only goes into one type of car, waaaaay pricey!

The MKT is going away, what will the higher end limo companies use now, no Town Car, no more Crown Vic/Grand Marquis, guess just give the business to Chrysler I guess.

Its been said that they (Lincoln) are not trying to compete with Caddy and European marks, they're a "different" kind of car company....Mercury, Oldsmobile and Pontiac are laughing from the grave at you, pick out a better saying on your tombstone!

Being in my mid 20's, i really like the look of this car, now if it only had bit more giddy-up i might consider it in the near future.

Kind of reminds me of Acura/Audi styling.

They wanna get some attention, drop the 3.5L Ecoboost in there, 365 hp in a smaller package, can you say SQ5 fighter!?

Lincoln exclusive engine means its an engine that you can only get in a Lincoln, you won't be able to get it it in Ford's equivalent car. An example would be that you can get the 3.7L V6 in the MKZ where as you can't get a V6 in a Fusion anymore. That's enough for some people to make the jump up to a Lincoln.

I've seen quite a few MKS limos.

I understand what your saying Chris but that's nothing more than OB1 speak, LOL!

One thing that bothers me about ford is I feel they limit choices. For example in Europe you can get 3 or 4 different engines on a focus including a few diesel variants. Why in America can I only get the 2.0 duratec? Why not a 1.6 ecoboost? Or another example there's an escape titanium x with a nice body kit and wheels on it but is that even available here nope. I just wish ford had more options on some vehicles. Even dodge has a couple engine choices on the dart and jeep had an srt8 version of the grand Cherokee before ford even decided to make a sport version of the explorer.

I think in the long run this is a not a breakout strategy overall because they are too cheap to spend the money on some unique body.

They still are so related to the Ford cousins with a few exclusive upgrades. The price also jumps a lot.

When I bought my MKZ, I knew it was a very nice Fusion (rode better, quieter, more standard options) but it was a Fusion.

I agree completely. I would love a Diesel focus with the 6 speed manual transmission. For Ford though, I think they are just looking at what sells. Americans don't like manual transmissions, diesel engines, or forced induction (unless it's on a sports car).

I'm the opposite. I think the small, forced induction engine is a brilliant solution in an economy car, I think a manual transmission is the way to go and I cannot fathom for the life of me why we are so glued to the less-thermally-efficient, more-refined gasoline over Diesel fuel?

But as it is, I had to special order my focus just to get the 5 speed manual, as nobody had them in stock. As my salesman told me "It'd sit on the lot for months. Nobody buys them with a stick anymore". So people routinely pay $2,000 (which is what the auto costs on a Focus) for a less reliable transmission? Insane! I prefer a manual anyway though I suppose I'm biased.

Chevy is finally bringing the Diesel to the cruze. But apparently, their marketing Gurus have decided that the ultra-efficient engine isn't for people looking to save on transportation costs; it's only for people who want the top trim level with navigation and leather seats. Now, I'm sure that's because it makes the Diesel engine look less expensive. But I'm sure there are some who would like a mid trim level car with a Diesel!

Kind of like the MT on the Focus. There were a couple of base models (steel wheels with hubcaps, crank windows, etc.) with a MT at another dealer. I guess they figure they better have some in stock at 'starting price'. But when you want an SE Sport, a middle trim level (not even at the top!) people look at your like you're sick when you tell them but you still want the manual transmission, lol.

Oh I could go on. And it's not just Ford. Want white tape stripes with your red paint? Sure, but you can't have the black interior anymore. Why? Dunno. Because the computer said so. Want climate control on your new Focus? Why, yes, yes I do! Okay, but for Climate Control to work you first have to add MyFord Touch, leather seats, an appearance package; oh, and you can't have those rims you picked out AND Climate Control (true story), and it'll be $3,800 in addition to the $795 option you picked. Agh! Why can't I just pick what I want when I'm special ordering a car? (And no, that wasn't going up a trim level, it literally was a requirement to have the SE Appearance package, which had different wheels, and another package that included leather seats, AND the MyFord Touch package, BEFORE you could have climate control).

I agree with this but I think they are starting to taking a step in the right direction. They are making engines exclusive to Lincoln that you can't get in Ford's counter part as well as a lot of features/options. The body panels on the new models are a lot different than their Ford counterparts.

Aside from the plastic lower panel molding and lower rear bumper treatment, I bet most people wouldn't realize it shares the same platform as the Escape thanks to the different sheet metal.

The " ala carte" way of ordering your car would be great, to be able to get a diesel engine, stick and NO options because its not only what you WANT but also, what you NEED! One cool thing about MINI is many of the upgrades are ala cart, to a point, but IMO its all about gouging, plain and simple. As far as a cool body kit goes, well, maybe the small SUV market is more competive than ours, can't see how that's possible but could be an explanation and that kit is needed because everyone else has one.

I always thought Mercury should've been European Fords w/ Merc badging and Lincoln should've been pure luxury rides, leaving Ford as an entry point. This wouldn't have to mean cheap and not be able to get "some" options but just a thought. One thing about Ford, they've tried and tried for years to bring over Euro models over the past 40 yrs (Capri in the 70's, Merkur in the 80's, Capri again in the 90's and the Lincoln LS, which was basically a Jag) so maybe they'll keep pluggin' away, works for GM.

Back when Lincoln-Mercury started you could pick any number of options AND pick just about any Ford engine you wanted and toss it in there. Want the 302? Sure! Want the NASCAR 427 with a 4 barrel carb, air conditioning and power steering! You betcha! That's why I always thought the Cougars were a little cooler than the Mustangs. Less cookie cutter. Every one was kind of unique.

High end cars are still that way, but these 'regular people' cars are pretty well cut and dry package cars. Though some are still good about it.

Of course, Ford is doing well; the others not nearly as well. So I guess they knew what they were doing.

I ordered a brochure for my focus. It was junk. One page, and told me nothing. Was like a magazine ad for the focus. What happened to paint chips and interior material swatches? I remember going with my parents when I was 5 years old when they went to buy a brand new F-150. Watching them go through pages of options to decide what they wanted and needed. They got red, the got the inline-6 since we just had a small boat and didn't need any more than that. The manual transmission. Vinyl seats with 3 small children, and the heavy duty plastic floor instead of carpet. Was the perfect family truck. Now, they'd probably have to order a bunch of packages in order to get similar options. Like a heavy duty towing package if they wanted the plastic floors (if those are even available anymore. They were awesome though, you could just hose them out if you had to!)

I'm happy with my focus but I wish I could've ordered a couple more options without needing to buy packages. So what if I want cloth seats and the standard floormats, does that mean I won't want climate control?
