Rupes Knock Off

So then the question is will anyone have the same reaction when griots sells these? Will you all be upset that griots took the fupes?
No...I won't be upset whether Griot's, or any other reseller, sells any RUPES' polisher-knock-offs.
Hopefully I won't be hornswoggled into buying any such RUPES' polisher-knock-offs from anyone.

How 'bout you, FPEvo, will you be upset?

Bob

I'm happy with my Rupes and the support of the company. I just bought my 21 from AG and couldn't be happier.

I like all of you find it sad that other people put in all the R&D effort for another company to steal their innovations. However it is how the world works.

I will stick by my Rupes.

That is exactly what I have been wondering since this thread appeared. How will people feel if this polisher is eventually carried here by AG? Even if it is under another companies name...

Yup that's what I'm waiting for as well. Should be interesting. I think we will see a slight growth in large throw machines.

I also think it's only a matter of time before there is another LH75 replica.

Reminds me of the Top Gear episode when they went to China, LOL! Once people spend good money on the knock off and it isn't as good, well, they'll be out the money and then have to turn around and buy the original......but if its good, well....

And pretty soon it's going to be difficult to traverse anywhere in the USA without crossing bridges and driving on roads...
our superstructure...that are being rebuilt by Chinese construction firms and their Chinese employees.

Weren't these jobs promised to go to our hopelessly
unemployed people, by our current administration?

Bob

I'm not sure how serious you are on this Bob, but I do disagree to a point.

Virtually all of the interstate system and most state projects receive federal funding that has a 'buy America' clause attached to it which requires material be manufactured in the US unless the US made product can be shown to be substantially inferior. Furthermore, all steel and iron has to be US manufactured, aggregate materials are normally recycled local material due to the way it is specified, asphalt is normally recycled local material, and concrete inherently needs to be made locally. Non-federal projects have to be designed by an engineer licensed in the state and a company registered in the state, normally these projects are designed by firms that are part of a prequalified consultant pool. So there is still plenty of money going to american companies even if the contractor is part of a Chinese conglomerate. All of the large ($100 million +) local projects I'm familiar with are being done by American companies, maybe it's different elsewhere.

Back to the fupes....I won't be getting one, I work on my cars and family/friends/coworkers that are mostly hard German paint. I'm usually using a rotary for compounding and my gg6 for finishing or just the gg6 for AIO. Just can't justify having another polisher to get better cut on finishing steps.

U.S. law requires major infrastructure projects to buy American if the cost difference is reasonable.

So far...
No one at the Federal level (President Obama included) has "approved" the use of non-U.S. contractors for these jobs.
But no one at the Federal level (President Obama included) has "disapproved" of non-U.S. contractors for these jobs either.

All the Federal "Buy American" laws do is constrict the flow of Federal monies, that would help fund infrastructure projects,
when States choose non-U.S. contractors, workers, and materials in preference to American ones.

Several States have hired a Chinese contractors and Chinese workers that use
"Made in China" materials for major road/bridge projects...and flat-out rejected
all Federal monies to avoid the Federal "Buy American" laws:
"So-called laws" that are not being enforced and are seemingly so easily circumvented.

And...
And China...taking note of what the Carpenters used to sing...
proudly announces on a daily basis: "We've Only Just Begun"

American steel? I didn't even think America made steel anymore. Well, maybe a little. My grandfather and father were life long Bethlehem Steel guys. Then in the 80s they started laying people off left and right. My father use to sell steel to the eastern countries - if you can believe that now. Luckily my father kept his job and my grandfather retired.

Products, cars inparticular, are global items nowadays. The "Buy American" thing doesn't carry the weight it used to. You've got Japanese cars made here, Amaerican cars made overseas, so what are you really buying, the badge or what its attached to?

It's the Chinese owned and operated construction firms that are using
"Made in China": Chinese workers, road and bridge building materials, etc...

That gives me consternation while driving a vehicle...no matter its origin of manufacturing/assembly...
upon/over any construction projects, that have been let contracts, to the above said Chinese firms.

That...and the American workers that have been so displaced.
That's another Chinese knock-off, so to speak.

Bob

Mann. All this hate for China. Remember when they were our Aliies?

9y2a6ysu.jpg
I see a difference in Chiang Kai-shek led Chinese forces helping us knock-off the Japanese during WWII...
(China and Japan had been fighting each other for years---we actually helped them get rid of that "problem")...
and knocking-off everyones' technologies; and being let contracts for construction projects on American soil.

I remember when Chiang Kai-shek had to flee China for Formosa (Taiwan)
sometime in the early 1950's to escape the Communist revolts in China.

Communist revolts?
Remember when this guy (per: arrow) was a friend of the Allies?

He wasn't ever involved in knocking-off any Americans, was he?

Bob

Not sure where this thread is going, lol but I sure as hell won't be buying any dupes or fakes.

A lesson learned: you get what you pay for.
I'd rather have a warranty, support team and more importantly: Peace of Mind than try and save a few bucks.

The hardware we buy, whether it be a $150 Polisher or a $450 Polisher is one of those things we'll buy and keep for years to come.

Well our Griot's machines are made in China and we get support from them, lifetime warranty, they stand behind them for sure!

So..... Everyone that are bashing the chinese companies for making a different version of a product; do you have or buy a GG polisher? If you look up this company making this Rupes "styled" polisher you would find they GG polisher.

Do you enjoy your cheap flat panel TV? Same deal. Someone came up with it and someone else figured out how to make it cheaper and over time better.

I will at least consider this new polisher as the Rupes has prove the the setup will work.

No I Own a Rupes 15, a Dewalt rotary, a Flex 3401 and a porter cable. I do however use my china made iPad to shop online at AG.
