Ready for the Mud!

I'd read in another thread that you are a satisfied Flex owner. Have you been sold on the Rupes after your time behind the wheel?

The Rupes are nice machines and smoother then the Flex 3401 IMO. Some of the guys mentioned that the Rupes tended to bog down on them when working on curved panels. I didn't run into that situation because I worked mostly on the flat panels.

One of the reasons I like the Flex is because of its forced rotation. I'm still very satisfied with the Flex 3401. Others have mentioned that the 5" Hybrid pads work great on the Flex and cause it to run smoother. I have the 6.5" pads now but I'm going to give the 5" pads a try.

I'm not a full time detailer, I'm a Civil Engineer by profession, but I consider this a fascinating hobby. If I was a full time detailer, or begin to do this for profit or begin to work on some high end cars. I think I would like to have at least one of the Rupes as part of my arsenal. They are nice machines but I personally don't need one at the moment. I also have the Flex PE14 Rotary. I feel that having both machines is sufficient for me at the present time.

Why'd you give the biggest guy the smallest polisher? haha
That truck looks amazing. Those toyos look great paired with the tuff shine, I need to try some of that stuff.

Hi Mike,

What are those defects on your paint? Hard to tell.

How did you get them since your truck is well maintained and you wipe your car down often?

I was wondering how many times you have compounded/polished this vehicle's paint?

The reason I ask is I have to lightly compound my black '06 Lexus LS430 after instilling brush marks with the Montana brush (eeek?!?!) on the bonnet.

I've already compounded the vehicle once and don't want to polish/compound too many times before i compromise the soft factory clearcoat.

Thanks,
Michael

It's all about letting everyone test out all the tools. :xyxthumbs:

Something that makes our detailing boot camp classes and our Thursday night projects unique in this industry not to mention makes our forum just as unique via pictures and videos always showing new people using the widest selection of tools, pads and products anywhere.

I really like it. For my tire appearance preferences, I like the look and I like how it holds up. I also like how if you brush up against it, or wash it with a brush or wash mitt, there's no black residue transfer like most tire dressings.

I also put this on our MB...

Sick truck mike! 999.9% jealous

It's a blast to drive that's for sure and everywhere I go it brings "Car Guys" out of the woodwork. Whether it's a gas station or a store, if I stop and get out I always get asked,

  • What year is your truck?
  • How much lift does it have?
  • What size is the engine?
  • What transmission and transfercase are you running?
  • What size are those tires?
I always enjoy talking cars with other guys and if they're local, I tell them about Autogeek and our detailing classes plus Detail Fest.

Beautiful job Mike !!!! Nothing like a great looking red truck :)

I shared the answer to both of your questions in the sign-up thread. I know not everyone reads everything on the forum everyday... luckily I tend to know where everything I wrote is located...

It RAINED last week as as such, the owner of the beautiful 1956 Chevy would not drive it 30-40 miles in the rain.

INSTEAD of cancelling...

My truck NEEDED to be buffed again and I explained why in POST #29 of this thread,

How to detail a Muscle Car Class

***Rain Date***

Currently it's raining outside so if the rain continues we'll reschedule the 1956 Chevy Bel Air for another date and instead I have a substitute project to work on.

The substitute project is my truck.

At our last detailing boot camp class I let my class practice how to wetsand and use rotary buffers.

And there are still some sanding marks and swirls to remove even to this day...

I had a Model A Hotrod for my class to learn sanding on but decided to use my truck instead and we used the Model A for a Thursday night project.

I'm going to ask my buddy Paul Grasso if he can re-clear my truck and if so, we might use it for the wetsanding portion for future classes because it works pretty good for training since it's tall.

Good questions...

The ad's really are true, when Mike says his answer to what people ask him what he uses on his own vehicles, it really is Pinnacle Natural Brilliance! Considering he has an entire warehouse of products to chose from, its certainly an endorsement! Truck looks killer!

Thanks for the follow up Mike.

Your responses are very thorough and I'm sure every member and lookey-loo of this forum appreciate it.

But to follow up your response, you let them wetsand and rotary buff perfectly good paint since you needed a replacement vehicle?

Michael

wow the truck looks amazing ! What a fantastic vehicle.

Holy tires ! incredible job on the wheels and tires.

Thanks Jaret.... it's actually very easy to keep clean with a spray detailer now that it's coated with Black Label Diamond Paint Coating.

Sure is a blast to drive! Getting ready to leave work for the day and take for a spin home!

:D

That said, we're going to try to attend the next Saint Lucie Mud Jam which takes place February 21, 22 & 23rd in 2014.

If we can make it there will be another extreme makeover scheduled for the following Thursday!

Might have to apply a coating to the underneath of the truck for good measure...

***Udate***

My buddy Matt Steele will be at this event filming some new episodes for Trucks Gone Wild so Yancy and I are going to take a video camera and take some videos of our own.

Anyone from our forum going?

:)

Excited to see the videos once they get posted! :props:

I have no idea what cameras Yancy is going to take? I'll be taking my trusty, dusty Canon and you can be sure I'll do my best to take a lot of pictures of all the action taking place.

Matt told us to call him when we arrive at the gates and he'll get us a VIP entrance and I'm going to guess help us to get parked where we can film from the bed of my truck.

Saturday's Schedule

10:00am Budweiser's 1/4 Mike Tailgate Party

Noon: Races start. Watch the Mega Trucks and the local races run the Mud Drags and Fly over the jumps.

6:00pm: Live music at the stage

11:00pm After dark Fire Pit Buggy Party

We're heading to the Mudjam in the morning, not sure how late we'll stay, I hear Matt's crowd can get a little rowdy!

Most important though is I need to get a fresh application of the Black Label Diamond Coating Booster on the paint so she'll wash up easy as well as a fresh coat of the TUF Shine Tire Clearcoat on the tires so the mud rinses right off.

:)

I've heard of these mud events being the end of a few cameras, be careful!
