Yep they ruled the streets for a long time. For 1500 bucks you were running low 12's.

Love G Bodies. Still looking to get one. Absolutely beautiful.

I agree and I had one in the mid 90's and a former co-worker of mine bought one and spent $1k, I watched the entire process and we went to the track and his original 51k car w/ the $1k in mods went 12.56 @106 mph, stock turbo/IC/inj/eng/trans too! My car had modded turbo/FMIC/inj/full exhaust and other mods but had 120k on the clock and had worn valve springs and tired trans but ran 12.68 @109 mph.

86 and 87's are the way to go, don't forget Limited's, T-types and turbo T's too, same drivetrains other than no 8.5" rearends, only the GN's had those.

Not the biggest fan on 7.5 combined with HP.Can one say EXPLOSION!!! I have one of the 8.5 under my 57 but with the GOV. LOCK.I am too old to hammer it (MUCH).

I agree and don't under stand why they'd use the 7.5" in the turbo Regals, the Monte Carslo, Grand Prix 2+2, Olds Gutless 4-4-2 (yes, still 442 in the mid 80's, 4 barrel, 4 speed auto and 2 exhaust) and Hurst's only had 180 hp and not too much torque, turbo Regals on the other hand had 355 ft/lbs in 87' @2000 rpms, all "rated", I say this because sneezing a couple bucks would make that go over 400 ft/lbs easily and w/ basic mods that everyone did made 500 ft/lbs a reality!

Ahhhh, the good old days of 1987!

Not to draw away at the topic at hand but GM got smart and instituted the 9 bolt after the demise on the 7.5.

Had a beautiful 1987 442 with a 69 olds 350, 200r4 and a GN rear with 3.73. All the g body cars came with roughly 175-185 hp except the GN, now a 4 cylinder makes that. I miss that car, had t- tops, full Hotchkis suspension and a custom interior. Remember blowing the doors off a 911 several times and the owner was just pissed he got beat by an Oldsmobile lol

Btw, first time using Chemical Guys Black Wax and really liked it. Very easy to use, on and off was a breeze and looks fantastic.

Thanks Born2Run, learn something new everyday.

Now a 69' 350 Rocket into a mid 80's G-body, much better than the 307 Olds engine, any pics?

They are packed away in the attic, but to give you an idea here is a montage

This was the color scheme

1985-1987%20442%20Reproduction%20Stripe%20Kit.jpg

This was the hood and I had a gold W-30 sticker on the fender to match

These are the Hurst Olds ground effects, the car had the same stance and tinted windows with aftermarket 18 inch wheels. So it looked like this only in blue, with a ram air hood and the W-30 stickers. Car was a show winner.

87_Cutlass_442_Render_Mascoll_Designs_vChrome2.jpg

It had also had the following:

Leather interior from another Cutlass
T-Tops painted factory color, so from the side it did not look like it had T-Tops
Shaved door handles
All moldings removed
Factory paint color with extra metal flake
Grey flames on the top of the ram air hood
Third brake light said Olds 442
Hurst lightning rod shifters
69 350 Olds with full Edelbrock Performer pkge, coated headers, SS 2.5 inch exhaust
Freddy brown 200R4
8.5 GN rear with 3.73
Full Hotchkis suspension

One of the very few American cars that were actually worth buying from the 80's.

Medticious, love the look of the white car, those chrome/gold 442 wheels look great and IIRC they were 8" wide too! The blue one looks VERY 80's with those wheels and the black car looks stunning, would love to see actual pics of that one!!

The white is a Cutlass Supreme Classic, right? My late Dad had one of those, dark metallic blue w/ the 14" chrome Olds wheels and was stolen out of the apartment parking lot. What did he do next, bought another one, an 84' but in a boring beigh/gold color w/brown landua top and actually added the chrome/gold 442 wheels to it. Engine went bad and had a crate engine stalled, another 307 but it had a lot more power. My Dad also had a couple Monte SS's, one needed an engine and he had a crate 350 installed, really woke it up but it had an open diff, LOL! I had an 80' Cutlass Calias w/ 260 V8, what a brick. It was light gray w/burgendy interior but it was stolen, the entire interior was removed sans the dashboard, the engine/trans, front clip and ofcoarse tires and wheels....all gone, gotta love my hometown of Detroit!
