Hey guys, I first want to apologize for the lousy photos- I have yet to master my new digital camera so please take what you’re about to see at your own risk.
My friend Tom has a 2004 5.7 GTO that as you can see is pretty rough. It was covered with swirl marks, water spots, and as is normal for a now 10 year old car- paint chips.
This is what Tom dropped off for me this morning:

I’m not really sure why I used my penlight before the wash, but as you can see the paint is garbage:

I used my AR 383 Pressure washer, my MTM foam cannon, and Chemical Guys Mr.Pink to foam Tom’s Car down:

I followed the wash with Chemical Guys Fine Clay Mit. The tools of the day are a Rupes 21 with a 5” backing plate and washer mod combined with an Orange Chemical Guys HexLogic Pad combined with their V36 followed with their HexLogic Black pad and v38 (while the v38 provides long work time- its consistency leaves MUCH to be desired for placing dots/ in my case flowing milk/ onto the pad). For the front and rear bumpers, trunk deck, spoiler, and door pillars the same pad choices were used, but in a 4” variety with a Meguiar’s D/A.

Needless to say- You can see the owner is impressed by the 50/50:

Here is the hood polished:

Here is the front in daylight as it was time to polish the rear:

Washed Again Ready for Chemical Guys Blacklight (2 applications the first by the DA and the second by hand):

We started to lose our light so I skipped taking photos of the Chemical Guys Wheel Guard application, the Chemical Guys Natural Tire Shine, and the top off with Chemical Guys 50/50 wax and v7. Glassworks window cleaner was also used inside and out. (The diminishing sunlight also caught me not being able to apply the Barebones to the wheel wells).
I was still set on getting some after photos So I had the owner follow me to a gas station for some quick photos (that’s my Camaro which will be next in the background).

Thanks guys for stopping by and checking out my work today. I’m open to any pointers or suggestions you can throw my way! Also I want to throw a shout out to Wills.WindowsAndWheels who gave me some VERY helpful pointers on the Rupes with a Kevin Brown washer mod and going with a 4" setup for my Meguiar's DA.

Nice work on the Goat and the last picture is ironic as GTO used to stand for Gas Tires Oil, LOL!

Very nice. I love the concept of that car, but was glad to see them change the name to G8, just didn't have that GTO appeal to me. Glad Chevrolet never followed through with a Chevelle as was rumored at the time. Still waiting for them to come out with something deserving of the name though.

What!

The GTO was the Monaro, the G8 is a sedan, not a coupe. The Chevy SS is the most lazy name, ever, way to drop the ball Chevy, tuuuurible!

I know, but they stopped putting out the new GTO when they started producing the Grand Prix on steroids otherwise known as the G8, I think they figured it was a suitable substitute. The SS is a very lazy and lame name, but at least they didn't call that thing a chevelle.

Not sure? What appears to be marks on the top right are the reflections of the gas pump that its parked next to.

I've got one of those that wants my help. Problem is his is WAAAAAY worse than that one. Roof looks like a stainless kitchen appliance it's so swirled. The rest is a corner car lot paint job, AND it's swirled up.

Figure it'd be good training for a helper to work on with me. ;)

That's funny that you say that about the roof.. The clay mit on this thing sounded like I was rubbing sandpaper across the roof (i joked that it sounded like a hip hop scratch machine).

Yeah, how about using Nova on the Corolla back in the mid 80's, twin cam 16 valve w/115 hp IIRC. The Charger name has been used on many cars, too many, even the new car should've had a new name. Not sure why its so hard to come up with a good name for a car nowadays, or a new name for that matter, LOL! The Chevy SS is a nice car for sure, just can't stand the name, its an option package, NOT a model! I do like the understated looks of the SS though, reminds me of the early 2000's M5.

Not to go too off tangent on this car but it kind of got a double whammy- the initial gto concept was awesome (you can see actually where the 5th gen camaro got its rear quarter panels from), but the car that was delivered was completely different. The other issue was that when Bob Lutz came up with bringing the car back to the US the exchange rate between the US dollar and Aus Dollar was favorable for a low 20's v8 sports car. By the time the car was able to be released it looked dated and cost about 15K more.

i like the 7th pic..is that dude yelling aaaaahhhhhh!!!!! in the reflection

I like the GTO's, liked what they did after the 1st year, went from the 5.7 to the 6.0, added the hood scoops (faux I know) and added one pipe on each side of the rear diffusor, a proper rear diffusor too, not like the one on the C7. Can't afford an M3, get a GTO that's been well looked after and no, not saying its the same car but similar in looks and perf.
