Saturday 25 January while being out at the Dyno day , I met the client of mine who I did the Lumina and Subaru detail for. He asked me to work on his Merc SL65 AMG come Monday morning. He asked me to take my time as this was his baby, so I decided to do just that. Monday morning when I arrived I started off by positioning the car so it fits under the roof while leaving me with enough space to work comfortably. The roar from the V12 when I fired it up was amazing , almost made me fall inlove with the car  After positioning the car , I gave it a good wash so that I can see the true condition of the paint. As I hosed the car before the wash I noticed NO water beading , 0. As I touched the paint I nearly got a heart attack. I doubt if this paintwork had EVER been decontaminated in it's life. I made a video of the sound when you move your hand over the paintwork, it sounds as if I am rubbing my hand on sanding paper

After a wash and dry , I decontaminated the wheels with IronX and various brushes , followed by APC mix and some brushes again

I also cleaned all the badges , door jambs and wheel arches but did not take any pics of that ( my mistake ) After this I IronX'ed the whole car , hosed it down afterwards and dried again. I then got onto claying the whole vehicle to get rid of all the contamination.

Various brashes were used , vacuumed and wiped down. Dressed the dashboard and treated the leather.

Now lets get to the paintwork. Here is a shot I took to show how scratched the paintwork was before I started correcting paint.

I did my test spots and decided 2 passes with FG400 on cutting pads was needed, followed by 1 pass of PF2500 on polishing pads.

I then set out to do the whole car with the combo I had decided on. Afterwards the car looked amazing and I was happy with the outcome. I then sealed the paint using my fav wax , Menz PL :hurray: I nearly forgot how much I love this wax. It left the SL with a dripping wet look , which was just the look I was aiming for. By the time I took these after pics , it was extremely overcast , which was a real pity as I would have LOVED to show some true proper reflection. Enough talk , onto the after pics.

Car is going back to it's owner this afternoon and then he is sending me my next project. Opel Astra 2L Turbo

Nicely done bud! Im sure the owner is a happy chappy!!!

Great job on a great car! You certainly brought it back to life. I don't understand how people let their cars get in the condition such as you described and showed with your photos. I have a Merc ML350 in Diamond White and even with that color I check it after every drive for road tar, bugs, etc. These things are addressed before I ever leave the garage to enter the house and the windshield is cleaned as a matter of course each time it is driven. Even if I am the only person in the car, I check the floor mats whenever I exit for dirt, stones or grease and correct and vacuum when I get home. It takes a few minutes each time I drive to do these things but if I let them go like your client did it would eventually take me hours of hard work to get the car in shape. A Ford or Honda I can understand but to let a car like this, or any AMG for that matter, get in that condition to begin with is sinful.

Nice work! Paint came out great; what type of pads were you using with the FG400?

If that is his "Baby" someone should call Child Protective Services, because the owner is Abusing that child!

+1 "this is my baby" - then why would you let it get like that? :bash:

What products and techniques did you use on the compartment containing the CD Changer?

I have had difficulty cleaning similar surfaces that have the black "velvet" coating.

Thanx for the comments guys. Instead of quoting each reply , I'll just reply once.

This owner has more than 20 cars on his name , his cars gets parked under trees on his plot as he doesn't have parking for them all. He most certainly does not realize how bad this is , but I am pretty sure he also doesn't care about maintaining cars like "us". He is also the same owner of the Subaru and Lumina detail I did. He booked 10 cars with me and said after that 10 he will start bringing in cars of family members. He does neglect his cars and don't value them. Ohwell , that is what pays my bills come month end. I restored a 380whp Opel Astra for him yesterday and his Prado should be arriving this afternoon.

I could not see paintcode on the car but I would asume it was ceramic as it was EXTREMELY hard. I have the Cyclo dual head polisher , and used my yellow cyclo cutting pads in conjunction with fg400. On the pf2500 I used green polishing pads.

The compartments where the CD Changer is situated , I just vacuumed out and then used a small brush to reach all the hard to reach places followed by a vacuum again. Did not really struggle much here ....

Great work and my love for SL's is strong :D How long did the work on this one take you?
