Hello, so I just wanted to share how happy I am with this setup. I accidentally ordered some 5 inch LC Hybrid pads not knowing that they had a beveled edge and required a smaller backing plate. After I go them I decided I would give them a shot and ordered a 3.5 inch LC backing plate and a few more pads. I had a chance to use them today on an abused 1996 M3 and the results were terrific. I have a 1995 m3 and am used to my normal 5.5 inch pads/5 inch backing plate having trouble spinning on the twisty side skirts and around some of the edges of the car. This setup spun even with a lot of pressure applied. I was about to spring to get a Rupes LHR15 but this pad/BP combo made me fall back in love with the 7424. Anyways, this was my first review and one of my first posts but I wanted to share my success.

That is a good setup, and works like a charm. I do the same with my Griots 6" if not running a 4" pad.

Not so long ago I've inserted an Hybrid pad (5") on my 3.5" LC backing plate just like you described, and imagined it would work really well based only on how good it looked. Now with your review I'll for sure give it a try using on a real-world situation.

Thanks for sharing!

Kind Regards.

Excellent, I am glad that worked out for you. Do you have to use a different counterweight with that set up? or do you just change out the backing plate and then you are off and running?

Lol, it's funny because I've just attached the pad to the machine for taking a picture!

Thanks for asking,

That's actually a 5" hybrid yellow polishing pad attached to Meguiar's G220v2. Fits like a glove.

I'm willing to use this setup to test performance, but Flex is like glued to my hands and works so nice with 5" hybrids...

Kind Regards.

Lol I was actually requesting Witty to show us a picture of the work he did but I'll you enjoy the pic you took buddy :dblthumb2:

5" pads to polish a whole car? Would take wayyyy too long, IMO. 5.5" is small enough!! LOL

I (almost) knew, but couldn't resist as I had taken that picture and inserted the pad on machine just to look good on camera lol, thanks for that funny moment! Glad you've liked as well.

I reassure it looks like a nice fit, and soon I can give some feedback on performance.

I know hybrid pads are great on Flex, they are the most durable pads I've dealed with and also cleans easy to brand new condition. They also 'resists' well to pad brush.

Sure mate, 5" for whole car is generally not the preffered choice, only if your being paid for millimeters polishing precision ;)

By the way, the beveled design of 5" hybrids for usage on 4" plates makes them very precise and easy to use on tight spots, like 'bellow side mirrors'. It's easier to get there with a 5" hybrid than with a 4" spot pad (IMO).

For larger panels my go to are 6.5" and after owning the Flex true correction became possible with such 'large' pads.

Apart from getting good results on DA + 5" BP + 5.5" pads, it was becoming a bit tedious for larger cars.

Kind Regards.

Sorry I don't have any pictures! I actually took a before of one of the really bad panels but forgot to do the after. I really do love how the hybrid pads clean. Half an inch is really no big deal in the big picture. It means 2 maybe 3 extra passes per section. I really do believe this setup corrects better than my 5.5 ccs and 5.5 hex logic paired with the 5 inch backing plate.

I finally get to try out my Rupes mini and the hybrids on my 3401 this weekend if the weather cooperates...mother-in-laws Rav4: PBL glass, wheels, & paint!

I'm terrible at taking pictures myself, always so anxious to just get things started...

Yep, hybrids are what I reach first since they arrived.

They are interesting pads, orange cutting pad feels 'softer' to the touch than the yellow light polishing pad. However, when you turn machine on you feel the orange holds it's shape better for cutting, while yellow just softens immediately when spinning... interesting product.

Also, their durability looks pretty extended compared to others, and although I love the Hydrotech pads correction and finish, I cannot handle losing at least 1 pad per job. The Hybrids are just that, the 'feeling' of the hydrotech with very extended durability.

You will like it very much, assured.

Looking forward to hear from your experience.

Kind Regards.

Woah, woah, woah! What ya tryin' to do, man? Make me spend more money?

I already have the 3.5 backing plate. Never thought this combo would work. I'm going to give this a shot myself.

Thanks you Witty4242 for the suggestion & Tato for the photo. :props:

Woah!, sorry for that pic!, I was away from home and couldn't get any better / new one.

I've tried to pick up some more right now, take a look:

General view of a polishing setup using 3401 for 6.5" and G220v2 for 5"

Lateral view. On flex 4" plate, pad is 'full centered'. On 3.5" plate, theres a small gap.

By the way, the gap is similar of what I generally use for spots (4" CCS pads):

I just could not test the setup right now, but soon I will.

Tato, thank you very much for the photos, my friend. I was just kidding, but very thoughtful of you for sharing your setup.

I went ahead and pick up a 5pk bundle last night. My vehicle is due for a make over (part of the reason why I've been asking about coatings in other threads), so the timing works out nicely.

Also, I'm glad you mentioned the longevity, or lack thereof, regarding Hydro-Tech pads. I thought it was simply an error on my part when I saw the condition of the cyan pad halfway though the job on our second vehicle.

I just picked up some orange and white hybrid pads. I was curious if the white could be used for finishing in most cars ? Is the white hybrid pad the same cut/finish as the regular flat white 5.5" pad ?

Hello.

I believe Hybrid has slightly (if any) more cut than a white polishing pad, but finishes really well (depending on product used and technique) excluding the need for even fine polishing in some cases.

To give you an example, I've used a Wool Pad and FG400 on a black paint, and white hybrid pad + SF4000 to finish down LSP ready. In this case I've done a test spot with a gray finishing pad (I call them black lol) and havent got any worth improvement.

Having fair cut and such ability to finish down nicely, it's also a great choice for 1-steps.

It works wonders with compounds, polishes and fine polishes, DAT or SMAT, very versatile.

I would compare White Hybrid more closely with Hydrotech Tangerine than a 'conventional' white polishing pad, and maybe chose a white flat if looking for 'less' aggressive polish with also fair finish.

What I mean, if an Orange cutting looks too much and white polishing flat needs more 'PICK', white hybrid will be the answer.

Hope I've helped,

Kind Regards.

i've been thinking about using a DA backing plate with those pads for quite some time now. if i'm not mistaken, i think kevin brown can shave/make a custom 4" DA backing plate to use with the traditional style DA which would fit the velcro backing perfect (he makes them for the megs mf discs) on those pads or any other 4" pad. here's an example of what he can do with the rupes backing plate...

Nice shared. Do you have the info if he sells this custom fit plates?

This is great idea, and I always enjoy using perfect match plates.
I'm pretty sure I would mess some 4-5 plates before achieving one good.

Kind Regards.
