Canadians avoid customs tax

Oh, sure there is. It's $750/person. That's after 48 hours. Kids count in that total as well. To be honest, they don't give a damn about merchandise, it's the booze and tobacco they're concerned with IME.

Wow, that's much higher than I expected. So you have to be here for 48 hours in order to bring stuff back? That's to keep you from crossing the border for an hour to buy cheap cigarettes?

My only issue is the crazy shipping charge, most of the time it costs from 50% to 70% of the cost of the order.

Yeah, what is with that? I thought we had that NAFTA thing, but I've seen at work it's crazy shipping to Canada.

Beats me. I know it's not a matter of federal taxing, all they do is apply the federal tax (5%) so that is a non-issue. How they come up with prices like 200$ to ship a small box is beyond my understanding.

I'm may just be ignorant of the tax laws in Canada, but that sounds like tax evasion to me. The value is the value - regardless of how it's paid for.

They even want to tax you on the shipping charges even though my shipping charges are to my holding address in the US. Its not like I am importing the shipping and it does not add value to the item. In the end, they usually just charge tax on the value of the items.

The biggest scam is brocherage, you pay the shipping company to declare the package at the border then they charge you a premium.

It's not a tax, it's a fee for watching justin bieber, take him back and we can talk about lowering the tax

The Olympic hockey game rules were that the loser would keep Bieber, you are stuck with that kid.

I have everything shipped to a place in MI, they charge me $5 when I pick it up.

If you are shipping into Canada though you can avoid brokerage by clearing the package yourself, it's easy: How to self clear shipment at CBSA and avoid UPS brokerage fee | Trueler

There are CBSA offices all over.

Now taxes, only 2 things are guranteed, death and taxes.

Not really or I would not be spending my $$$ south of the border.

I get free shipping with AG.

What are you buying? If you are getting free shipping with AG that means you have a special account or deal. They flat out do not give free Canadian shipping (minimum of $40-$120 shipping charge they are covering for you???), that's well known. Hey if you can get it cheap in the states, go ahead. All the power to ya!

They flat out do not give free Canadian shipping...

That they don't.

I get all my US purchases sent to a US address for pick-up. That means free shipping and the money I save in shipping costs will pay my fuel costs many times over.

Plus while there, I get my larger jugs of Mobil 1 for a lot less. And then on top of that, I do not pay HST for the first $800 of purchases but that is only because I have a place to stay down there.

Whats the percentage difference on the Mobil 1?

The price varies from $20 to $26 and the 5 US quart (4.73 liter) jug is bigger than the 4.4 liter jug at CTC.

Its worth it in my case. My car takes 11.5 liters of engine oil.

You are right. Brokerage takes them 5 minutes to do and UPS charges a flat fee of 50$ for that service. Talk about crazy, that's a 1000$ per hour to write something in a computer file.

Have a look at canadian retailers then have a look at Autogeek. You will understand.

I sent an email 2 weeks ago to Eshine regarding ordering a pad washer with the detailer cart. They never even bothered to answer me. Most of the items I want are never in stock, it's always a special order. So I am done with that. Autogeek is the greatest place for detailers and I want to do business with them. My only issue is the crazy shipping charge, most of the time it costs from 50% to 70% of the cost of the order. So I will do my best to find a solution ;)

I do not recall that email. It happens often a customer sends an email, they get no reply and we get put on their #### list while we scratch our heads wondering why we never got the email. Although I personally get 100-200 emails a day I answer them all within 1-2 days. I have been patting myself on the back lately on how quick I have been answering! As far as stock goes it is spring, items are selling quicker than we get them in. Anything you need from AG we can also special order and we do not charge extra for that.

Here is a copy of the e-mail:

Hello,

I am interested in purchasing a pad washer and would also like to get a detailer's cart that accept the pad washer.

I could not find it on your website and was wondering if it could be purchased through your company, and if so, at what price.

Thank you,

Daniel Crispin

We do not have carts but send me a link from AG and I will email you a price. We basically just add the exchange. Hopefully it is something that we can easily ship to you but it should be no problem.

Eshine has always gone above great service for me. If I have a problem I call them and talk to them. Very good people! I understand about the spring thing, we are late this year all over Canada and now it is becoming spring across the country at the same time.

I am not sure how duty free works, will have to check that before I go purchase everything. I have never done it before but I know there are limits on amount you can buy... will let you know once I made the inquiries.

I contacted Trimex by email after posting the message here yesterday, I will give you more info on that once I receive an answer from them.
Duties is free as long as the item is made in USA/Mexico. u will just have to pay taxes. Quebec is 15% tax. or stay for 48 hours and get $750 tax/duty free
