Auto Detailing Day at Tuscarora Dave's (South Central PA)

Have weights that hold it down. Usually don't need more than that.

I would happy to pick up pockets. His store is not that far from about 20 minutes.
Good deal on the weights, if you have room for it, bring it.

That would be icing on this multiple layer of detailing cake goodness. :)

Having Pockets at our detailing day would definitely be icing!!

Hey Dave

I thought I read somewhere in this thread you where going to use some LC mf pads.......do you have or anyone else bringing them?

The reason I ask is I have 2 new ones.....I had a trip planned to New York that week and was going to make a suprise visit......but unforturnetly I have had to cancel that trip.(Got notification today of a out of town job that is starting that week)

I would be happy to send them to you and anything else that you might need.

Just let me know.

That's too bad you got redirected, because that would've been a very special surprise for me for sure.

I'll PM you about the MF pads.

I was going to walk up the road a piece and snap a photo of my shop and all the stock vehicles on the lot, so you'd all have an idea of the space we'll have for the detailing event....but...

As soon as I walked out of the shop to do it, I looked out back and realized the bus I had started an hour before that was still running...oops

I had to leave at that point, but I'll take that photo and post it soon. Maybe this weekend.

To go along with the whole idea of bringing items that you would like to share with others to see if they like them as well I thought it wouldn't be a bad idea for some of us to throw out a product or two that we would like to try before we commit to buying it. Who knows maybe a member attending the event would be willing to bring it along to let you try it out? Just a thought. As of now I don't have any specific products in my mind but maybe others do.

Hey y'all. So, all my orders are starting to arrive, some of which contain new microfiber towels. Do y'all recommend washing new towels before use?

Also I have a bunch of older towels I'd like to wash and bring along for the ride. Is straight Woolite okay or should I mix with Tide Free or something like that? I don't think I need to bother pre-treating these, they haven't seen much use.

For me, it depends on how the towels were handled and or packaged. If I buy cheap box store bought towels, which I rarely do, and they're exposed to the store environments such as being partially sleeved with a small cardboard sleeve, and tossed around from warehouse to display shelf etc. they'd get washed before being used, or simply used for under hood or door jamb duty.

The towels I typically buy are fully encased in a sealed plastic bag and go from case right to the desk drawer in my little office/storage area of the shop, well hidden from the helpers who would sop grease off the floor with a brand new 70/30 microfiber towel. These towels are 90% of the time good enough, right out of the bag to wipe finishing polish off of perfectly finished paint without marring the paint. Once they're laundered they get cycled down to compounding duty, once they hit the shop floor they're used for oil change duty etc.

So, I did this today. It was just too gorgeous outside.

All I did was Meguiar's UWWA on everything, wheels and tires included.

When I got close to the front I noticed a lot of cracking and chips. Hadn't seen those before but I'm sure they were there. Probably not much we can do about the cracking, I suspect that is from panel flex.

OK, I was up at the shop horsing around a little today, and I called Andrew (MightyPudge) and talked his ear off until my cell phone battery died.

"Sorry for the abrupt end right in the middle of the M-105, Baby Oil discussion."

We had a nice discussion.

While I was up there I walked up the road a little and took a shot of my shop and the lot, so you guys (and gal) can have an Idea of the space we'll have, to do whatever it is we do that day.

I'll be moving all the vans to the back of the shop, so we'll have all that space to display our shiny cars. Plenty of space to work, but we'll need a good number of cords depending on how many might want to work on their own rides.

Here you go.

Andrew's Mustang will be inside the shop.

Here's where I'll put the vans. There's plenty of overflow parking back there and across the road if this thing blows up and many more people show up.

Andrew and I discussed the possibility of rain...

In the event of rain, naturally I'd expect that a good percentage wouldn't come out, but I assured Andrew that I'm in with both feet, rain or shine concerning the work we'll do on his Mustang.

I believe he and I are on the same page there.

We should be just fine with space for people to be involved with the Mustang detail inside the shop. Now if it's raining and 20 people still show up, it's going to get a little tight in there.

Those who come to this event, rain or shine, will want to bring a folding chair of sorts, like a camping chair or a lawn chair etc.

Before I forget, Here's the current list. I got a cancellation PM this morning so we'll be one short from last time I posted it.

I'll go second. I'm looking forward to checking into the McCulloch steamer that will be there. I'm also possibly interested in experimenting with CG's air fresheners. On the other hand I have not purchased a spray wax/sealant so if anyone would be willing to bring their favorite along it would be greatly appreciated!

I'd like to see, and apply some Opti-Seal. I've been through a few 12 ounce bottles of UPGP and love it..but I hate that it destroys the inside of the sprayers causing more to leak down the bottle than what goes on the car. I'm thinking OS might be the next best thing.

tuscarora dave;1064247 I'd suspect a lot of the people who will come to this event will have nearly perfected paint finishes already. I have at least 20 vehicles on the lot that could use some real attention in that area. Having said that said:
I will most likely be one of the vehicles there with uncorrected paint. I didn't want to correct my paint over the winter and have to touch it up in the spring time because it is a daily driver. Therefore my schedule has been very busy lately and haven't gotten the time to do it. I don't foresee myself getting a considerable amount of free time before the event so I just wanted everyone to be prepared to see some swirls! Lol

Glad to be on the list Dave!

Looking forward to this, I'll be going through the thread at work over the next couple days.

haha Yep, that's the one. I might have to give you a call or just wait until you can see it in person to answer a few questions regarding paint chip repair and some other minor paint related items.
