Auto Detailing Day at Tuscarora Dave's (South Central PA)

Idea: Name tags! Everyone puts their forum name and real name on them.

Thoughts? :D

You laugh now. Really makes things easier at work functions when I meet people from other sites for the first time.

I have a bunch of name tags that I was going to bring anyway. I was thinking the same thing as you, forum name and real name.

Just a thought, with all of the MF thread discussions going on. What say we bring what ever we have so we can sample, or even just get an idea of what eachother use/like and why. Iv been waiting to place an order but Id hate to order somewhat blindly.

I like the MF idea.... I could use some more info on different ones.

As for the name tags? I think it will be easy figuring out who I am :D

I only have the cobra gold jrs and rolled edge blue ones from AG but I definitely wouldn't mind sampling a few others.

Hey y'all.

We're a few weeks away from our "PA Detailing Day" where my Mustang will be undergoing the awesome process of having the paint properly corrected and sealed. Until then, my goal is to essentially keep the car as clean as possible.

Unfortunately, I do live in an apartment complex where regular washes are forbidden. So it'll be waterless or rinseless washes only for me right now.

That said, I'd like to outline the process I plan to follow over the next couple of weekends and get everyone's input. My goal is to take the car to the local DIY wash and use only what I currently have on hand. I will be picking up other supplies after our Detailing Day, but for now I need to keep costs down.

Let me know if this order looks right. I am guessing this is several hours of work. :)

  1. Clean, degrease and dry engine bay
  2. Spray down wheels with water
  3. IronX wheels
  4. Rinse wheels
  5. Spray the wheels with Wolfgang or Optimum Power Clean, scrub with wheel brush
  6. Rinse wheels
  7. Pressure wash the car - water only
  8. Dry car using MF drying towels (I may have some Guzzlers on hand)
  9. Dry wheels with dedicated MF wheel towels
  10. Wash the car with Meguiar's Ultimate Wash & Wax Anywhere
  11. Seal the wheels with CG Wheel Guard
  12. Apply tire dressing

We should walk around with them pasted to our forehead. Just kidding. I have Sharpies to write on the tags if you bring them, but I think it's more fun walking around calling a Bill a Bob, or a John a Clayton, then seeing if one of them gets uptight cause I keep getting their name wrong.

Why's that?

Looks like a good obsessive detailer's plan.

I'd do one wheel at a time, or at least one side of the car at a time, because if you let the Iron X dry on the wheels you could end up with some etching that needs to be polished out.

Spray your product on the wheel starting from the bottom lip of the rim and work your way up to the top. This avoids any streaking from gravity pulling streams of liquid down over dry wheels.

Just because a product is advertised as PH neutral doesn't mean it's not what I call a "sledgehammer" of a cleaner that can and will cause damage if used improperly. There's a reason you don't see certain product on a shelf where any Tom, #### or Harry can purchase it without learning about it through a little research.

Thanks Dave, that's exactly what I was hoping to hear/read.

I'm new to IronX (and well, all of this really) so thanks for the tip. I'll take before and after pics so everyone can see the results.

Hopefully the engine cleaning goes well. I'm nervous about getting stuff where stuff shouldn't go. :)

Just don't go all John McClane with the cleaning products/water and you should be good.

Attend to one area at a time - spray, scrub, dry - if need be, to minimize getting product where you don't want to.

There are many threads on how to properly clean and detail the engine bay :dblthumb2: read them and absorb and take your time! :)

Very cool Dave, nice you of you to make time to do such a wonderful thing! But then again I wouldn't expect anything less of you!

I will be needing name tags, I am getting OLD so its already hard enough to remember names when clients call. LOL

Tell me about it. I'm 44 and very grateful to be living in the era of mobile technology. Having my address book (with pictures), calendar, to-do list, and reminder list right in my back pocket at all times has proven extremely handy.

Im here in 5" of snow today wondering if it will get any better in 14 days. If not I wont be bringing my Formula, and I am not so sure about my Bonneville making the trip (in one piece) We will have to see, I sure hope it gets nicer than they are predicting. Whats the weather forecast look like there Dave/MightyPudge?

The weather sure is unpredictable lately. Here, yesterday it was sleeting and snowing with some freezing rain, and today...sunny and supposed to be in the 60's.

The weather channel web site seems to only go out 10 days, so we'll see in the next week what their projections will look like. Honestly....I don't pay much attention to week out projections for planning around the weather. Hopefully it will be sunny and warm for our detailing get together here in south central PA.

MightyPudge (Andrew) and I have already decided that, if mother nature sees fit to pour rain down and gives us lemons so to speak, we'll be making lemonade inside the shop, pushing on with the paint correction on his Mustang.

AccuWeather has a long range forecast. Its saying 50° with some rain and snow. But a couple days ago it was saying 65° and sunny. So who knows what's going to happen. Going to have to wait until a couple days before to really get a weather report.

Yeah with a pouring rain the T-tops will surely leak some so i cant have it sitting outside in an all day drizzle. We will see how it goes, my mind is set on coming to the meet if at all possible.

Unbelievable. Snow in April.

Significant snowfall may be the only thing that keeps me from making the trip, since I can't imagine the Mustang will do too well in deep snow. I choose to refuse to believe we'll see any actual accumulation in mid-April. Denial, that's my plan.

This has been the craziest - and longest - winter ever.
