I put this on my Michelin Super Sports last year and am looking at doing a touch up before I put the summers back on next week

I read a lot of these threads and it looks like I can just clean them and reapply?

Also someone ( I think it was Eldorado) said not to use it on Michelins but why? It seems to have held up well on mine

Thanks

I have a brand new set of Michelin AS3's and just applied a tire coating to them last weekend, 4 coats to be exact and its been raining all week, no end in sight till the weekend, so I'm going to be curious to see how its holding up. I think Michelin's "soak up" more product, so that could be the issue here. I'm going to post some pics after my washing of them, keep in mind it will be just left over RW and a microfiber towel wiping, no chemicals to clean the sidewall this time out.

Ok thanks. As mentioned seemed to work fine for my tires

So I can just reapply ie no need to remove the coating? Sounds like a pain to try and get it off and I have no reason to want it off, just touch it up?

These tire coatings don't need to be removed as they really don't last as long as a paint coating per say. I get a solid 4-6 weeks out of TW tire coating but even towards the end it wasn't browning.

I don't know a lot about Tuff Coat but IIRC you have to scrub the hell out of the tires for it to work properly...OR ELSE!

I am using the TW. So guess I will just slap another coat on it and see what it looks like

Cheers

I would suggest scrubbing them with D143/ Meguiars Hot Rims all wheel and tire or something similar first.
You will be surprised how much brown you will see.

I recoated my summers last weekend before mounting, without a good cleaning and it didn't take the same. Now that they are mounted I will clean and recoat.

The cleaner from the box, well I just don't know about that stuff. It works to clean hands after wrenching..

Believe it or not that tire cleaner supplied in the box is by far the best tire cleaner I've ever used. The only problem is there's only 16oz. of it, but it's more than enough to fully clean at least 1 set of tires if not more. Give it a try from start to finish and begin with a dry tire and you'll see tires transform into true black tires. I kid you not, I was surprised myself.

I will give it a shot this weekend. Gods knows I have enough laying around.

I tried it once,whenever and wasn't impressed.
I will let you know.

It does seem to strip the coating pretty good and gets the boo boos off the wheels better than anything.

I used to think the same thing, mainly because it's not like you see an outrageous amount of brown bleed off the tire once you begin to use it... But it does things much more useful instead. Take this for example:

These tires had always looked this way once cleaned and dried. Always.

After just 2 go rounds with the tire cleaner on a dry tire from the start. Thorough agitation w/Meguiars tire brush.

After 3 go rounds. I had never seen these tires look like this. The brown was gone and didn't come back. And I didn't have to nearly pass out to reach this point like every other cleaner I've tried. Lol. [don't get me wrong, it was work, but not like 10 times scrubbing to achieve it]

Wait...that last picture is just from a couple cleanings? The tire coating was under there looking like that???

No no no... I had washed Hyper Dressing off that tire. But not just your typical once used water based dressing, but Hyper Dressing applied to those tires regularly for about a couple years, so it was basically married to Hyper Dressing. I divorced it. Lol.

The 1st rounds of cleanings [I'm guessing 2] got done with Megs D143, and as usual once those tires are "virgin" from having been cleaned with D143 they bloom like crazy... But from the 1st pic to the 3rd pic it's 3 cleanings/rinses with the TW tire cleaner and the Meguiars tire brush [which IMO is a pretty superior tire brush]

There was no tire coating going on, just the cleaner demonstrated. Believe it or not I made the glorious decision of slapping more Hyper Dressing onto them once I had them perfectly clean for the 1st time ever. Smh. They're now coated with Endura and look fabulous 7 days a week :)

Thanks, I don't have those products so will just use the cleaner supplied in the box and then recoat and see what happens - cheers

Well I scrubbed them down a bit with the TW cleaner and recoated 3 layers and they look like they did when I first did it. That cleaner seems to really work well

I'd add a pic but this site wont ever let me attach pics unlike the other 10 sites I attach pics on???? :dunno:

Has anyone tried the trim coating on a set of tires?

For a check I did my sons bike tires with it 2 years ago. It looked the same as the tire coating.

I also wondered if it was basically the same stuff inside the trim bottle. It has the same density, smell, color etc...

I did on tires. and couldn't tell a difference

I've been doing alot of testing since I heard you guys say this... I've come to the conclusion that while the Trim Coating applies good and looks good on tires, the major thing that separates the 2 is the Tire Coatings resiliency when it comes time to being cleaned.

While the Tire Coating can withstand even harsh cleaners such as Megs D143, the Trim Coating on tires can bearly live through a spray on hose off cleaning with Megs D114.. Try using D143 and it diminishes even greater. I guess they really did make it different, because the Trim Coating doesn't wash off that easily from plastic trim, but on tires it's a different story.
