31 hour detail w/CQUK lots of pics

Hey guys! So over 4 days i did a complete detail on my truck. Interior, exterior, engine detail and paint coating. Took 31 hours to complete and it kicked my butt. Any way here it is enjoy


Engine: I first started off by disconnecting the neg battery cable followed by using plastic wrap, foil, and tape to cover all electrical components. Im prone to messing something up so i didnt want to take any risks. I sprayed a heavy amount of undiluted Megs APC and scrubbed with a paint brush and various other brushes. Once that was done i did a low pressure rinse and washed away all the APC and dirt. After it dried some what I sprayed Megs HYPER DRESSING and used another paint brush to get into tight spots and then used a MF rag to wipe the spray.

Interior: For the interior i wiped everything down with a micro fiber towel that was dampened with water. I then wiped with a heavy dilution of Megs APC to remove all the old interior dressing. Using a shop vac i vacuumed the seats and carpet then using folex i sprayed the carpet down and scrubbed areas that needed attention. Luckily there werent many. After that i used my bissle spot clean pro to do a deeper clean. Surprisingly i had a very old chocolate stain on my seat that i never could get out and the bissle removed it. Once all that was completed i wiped everything down with a 50/50 ratio of Megs HYPER DRESSING.

EXTERIOR WASH: For the exterior i first cleaned the wheels and tires. I cleaned the tires with Megs APC and a CG drill attachment brush. The wheels i just cleaned with some cheap wheel cleaner since i would be polishing later. After the wheels i rinsed the truck with water. Followed by a wash using a MF sponge and wolfgang auto bathe and 2 bucket system with grit guard. Once it was washed i inspected the paint for scratches there was one on the front passenger fender as well as the rear passenger fender right below the tail light that was pretty bad. Followed after the wash i used a nanoskin (fine) sponge and megs QD for lube. I washed the truck again the same way as above and dried using a waffle weeve mf towel.

BUFFING: I was limited on supplies for my paint correction so dont judge my product usage lol. I started off with a carpro MF cutting pad and megs UC on my PC. I took my time on this. Prob about 5 hours on the entire truck with just that one pad. The megs just wasnt cutting like i wanted it to. After that I used a LC orange flat pad on my PC with WG TSR 3.0 which finished it off nice. Once that was done i did 2 IPA wipe downs and moved the truck into the garage followed by carpro eraser and suede MF towels man does that stuff smell good.

No more swirls!!!!

That terrible scratch is virtually gone!!!!

The final touches

Once everything was done i proceeded with the coating. Coated the entire trucks painted surface. Before i did the IPA wipe down i dressed all the trim with megs hyper dressing as well as dressed the wheel wells with megs hyper dressing this way i could wipe up any that may have touched the paint with the IPA. The very last thing i did was dress the tires with you guessed it Megs HYPER DRESSING and polished all the chrome with wenole blue. For the windows i used auto finesse crystal glass.

I like the step by step documentation and photos showing the before and after. Initially, I had no idea how gorgeous the paint on your truck was until some hard work and the right products brought it to its brilliance....

Thank you everyone. I hate to admit it but I didn't use a final polish. After I was done with the WG TSR 3.0 I inspected the paint and it looked great as it was. I did something I never typically do which may have made it look good to me. That is I would do my typical pressure pass then I did about 4 passes (2 vert, 2 horiz) with just the weight of the polisher. My plan was to use megs UC on a mf cutting pad then use megs UP on a black flat pad. However, when I was done using the MF cutting pad for 5 hours I ended up with what looked like polishing oil on the paint that turned out to be very very fine scratches. I was like "sh!t I don't think the UP will remove this". So I did a test spot with WG TSR 3.0 ON the black flat pad but it wasn't working that well. So I went at it with the TSR and the LC orange flat pad and it worked great. So I was going to hit it with WG final glaze, being as it has a fine polish in it, and the black pad after the orange pad and TSR but I'm assuming because of the relief of pressure on the orange pad the results exceeded my expectations. I thought about going at it with the black pad and WG final glaze, being as that's the closest thing I had to a final polish at the time, but I felt like it wouldn't have done much. It might not be the best way but unfortunately I was limited on supplies and all in all I'm happy. It was my first time applying a coating and my first time using a mf cutting pad. So I'm just chalking it up as a learning experience.

You DID NOT put a sheet of aluminum foil directly on the battery, connecting the battery terminals did you:bolt:
That is why I will no longer wear anything metallic when working on cars. I still have the watch band branded into my arm from when I learned not to. 45 years ago.
