Improving IPA solution for LSP prep

No that's not quite what I meant. I was asking instead of using a dry towel for an IPA wipe down, using a damp MF towel instead. I feel damp towels glide across the paint better and pose less threat of installing any micro marring.
A dampened MF towel may serve to further dilute an IPA solution. Whether it will provide additional lubriciousness...:dunno:... so many variables---including the MF towel's properties, and the touch of the Human hand, among others.

Yeah well maybe just mix the IPA a little stronger to compensate.

Anyways just a thought. To me it seemed like it could be a safer means of performing an IPA wipe down. Meh who knows. I like to use optimum polishes anyways so I never really bother with IPA :)

30 ounces of 20% IPA solution + 2 ounces of Meg's D114 = game over

I wonder if using a damp towel, soaked in distilled water would be effective for an IPA wipe down. Anyone ever tried that before?

I would not use only water to try to remove polishing residues. I do use a wet/damp microfiber towel alone very often to do wipedowns and they work great but as a LSP pre-cleaning I would not trust it would remove everything.

Michael Stoops from Meguiar's gave me this recipe. If he uses it, I have FULL trust in it.
•Perhaps Meguiar's D114's proprietary:
-Linear alkyl quarternary ammonium compound...
-is being used as a detergent/surfactant. :dunno:

•Thanks for sharing this information Mark. :dblthumb2:
-I'll add Mr. Stoops recipe, to the many other different IPA/Surfactant combinations, for "Eraser-ing" purposes.

Not sure, but D114 is supposed to leave nothing behind. It cleans and gives good lubricity to the IPA when wiping off. It works well for me.

Yep I did not know that about D114. When it came out I looked at it and saw it took twice the amount of product than ONR yet costed the same price so I just crossed it off the list of products I wanted.

With in info in this video I will have to re-think that position when I run out of ONR and maybe give it a try ;)

Thanks for sharing FivePoint.0, that's what I love about Autogeek, I learn something new very often when I come here thanks to members like you.

I only use D114 with IPA. ADS sells 32 ounces for cheap and it lasts a long time. For all other needs, I use UWW+ concentrate.

We're all here to help! :)

OK quick update. Was able to try the solution yesterday. Leaves a film behind so I will cut it by 3 for next test. So that will bring the total concentration of soaps to 1% from the original 3%. Will let you know how it goes if it can ever stop raining in this place.

Thanks for this update. (Stop.)
Anxiously awaiting your next report. (Stop.)
Good Luck on your recipe tweak! (Stop.)

If you're a true professional buy eraser in a 5L and save some money, its WELL worth the money if you're charging hundreds of dollars to apply a coating.

Gtechniq panel wipe removes everything and I don't even trust Eraser when applying a coating. Another hood one is Sonax Paint Prepare, excellent panel wipe and very economical.

Dr. Ghodoussi says you can use a water dampened towel to clean the surface of polishing oils when using his products.

this is correct. to be clear to others (i know you know, Mike), Dr G says this regarding his polishes (except Poli-Seal and GPS, obviously).

for other brand polishes, he encourages an IPA solution.

for those that don't know, the procedure now for Opti-Coat Pro is to use OPT primer polish (has coating adhesion promoting properties), wipe with a damp cloth, assure surface is dry and coat! the polish is basically Hyper but with an additive.

another reason why i LOVE the Hyper polish he offers. he really hit a home run with the Hyper twins.

Ya I am not doing coatings yet. I am mobile and doing coatings outside seems like a bad idea to me. I use my IPA (or what ever will replace it this year) after polishing and also as a prep for Sealants and waxes. If I was do to coatings, I would follow the manufacturer's directions. So far my plan is to use Opti-Coat. Looks like the best overall product to me. I have a tube of it but never applied it. Will use some on headlights soon ;)

can anyone verify tht d114 does not leave anything behind? or is it just heresay at this point?
