got a customer that im unsure about.

I'm fairly opposed to offering ANY discounts. Once you discount a service once they will never pay full price. I understand you are trying to build your client base but never build it the wrong way.

K i sent the guy an email here is what i said.

"Will you be willing to share the risk? Pay the normal price for what ever package or service you want. Then for the first 4 customers that comes to me from this forum i will give you $25 cash. The thing is i could do both your details and worst case scenario nothing comes from it. Best case scenario i get 4 details in one week from this forum and you get that $100 back.

To be honest i don't think a trade is in either of our best interest. It has a great possibility of creating bad blood. Say we went your way, I do 2 cars for 16 hours and make only $200 then not one deal comes from it. Id then feel like i wasted my time. Say we go with what I'm suggesting and I don't pull in one deal from the site. You would then think i screwed you. Sure there is a possibility this site turns into a cash cow for me. Problem is neither of us can guarantee that. You see what I'm saying? So unfortunately as much as id like us both to find a common ground and settle on a trade I don't think it would be wise of us. So lets just stick with our normal prices and work something out off of that. If you think to your self "your know what id rather do my car my self and learn how to any way" ill help you out and give you some insight to do certain jobs that require a certain skill set. Is that fair?"

How do you guys think that sounded.

there's really no need to do all that.. complicating way to much

"Hey man, I planned on doing an intro price for the first 3 customers for paint correction/package ($50 off). If you guys are interested in that, I'll save you a spot now. But other than that, I'd rather pay $100"

there's absolutely no reason why you should give him YOUR earned money. You're paying the sponsorship fee. Done and done.

Have you even SEEN the two cars in question?????? Aside from the loss of money if you agree, have you any idea what you're getting into? This is a loser all the way around. Wash your hands of the whole thing and look elsewhere.

Forget this clown. He will be more trouble than he's worth. I do it all the time and have plenty of work. He is a pro at this. That's how he get everything done I'm sure. He always wants a favor and one favor leads to another and so on.

Yeah thats another thing i forgot to mention. When he first asked for a quote i told him "sight unseen" and gave him a quote on my stage 3 package. I emphasized on sight unseen too and told him that the price varies depending on condition. He, i think, assumes since hes an admin and "hes doing me a favor" ill give him the base price and also take $100 off of it no matter what the condition. Any way i think my last message was pretty clear to him that im not willing to do the trade or any trade for that matter.

Id also like to point out, he cannot post you are a scam or post anything like that just because you won't work for free. It's called libel, if he MAKES up something or calls you a scammer to mess up your reputation or drive business away, you can actually press charges and receive compensation very easily. Don't let him push you around!!

At the end of the day, spending money on ads, you rarely see it back. A lot of these car forum guys can barely afford to keep their cars running, let alone looking nice.

I wouldn't go for this.

I posts on a couple forums. Been asked to sponsor them but never have. I do write ups and post show threads and I get business from it. I never talk about my business or break their forum rules. If someone asks how much or something along those lines, I take it to private messages.

I'd tell this dude to get bent. Who knows what type of crate he expects you to detail??? It could be terrible. Don't you need to see the car to give a quote?

Sorry, I hate nickel and dimer types. Tell him you'll gladly pay his full forum fee, and if he wants - he can pay your full detail fee.

When you discount, you compromise yourself. If your good - dude is already getting a bargain.

Professionals don't wheel and deal - ask your Dr, lawyer, or dentist. The price is what it is.

I paid $300 for 3 months. I'm at 2 months and have made ~$900 from forum members

Gotta look at your area, forum, members, etc...

Funny how he wants a big discount from you but won't offer you the same. Whatever your regular price is, if he waives the $100 fee, which costs him nothing, you could consider giving him a discount up to $100 total. If it were me, though, I would only be inclined to offer a $25 discount after he waives the membership fee, period.
That's the only deal I would be inclined to offer. Maybe $50 if I'm generous, but any discount you give comes out of your pocket but any discount he gives costs him nothing.

Sounds like your prices are way to low please never move to my state with those rates.

From my experience, there are forums that cost $500 a year for vendors which i skip immediately, not worth it imo. And i would politely skip on that B.S. deal he is offering you. All my one-step paint corrections usually run above $300 so for $100 they can get a wash and quick interior. No more!

My prices are what they are because im not established and known yet. I live in an area where there isnt a high demand for a mobile detailer like say Austin, LA, or Miami. Therefore, I cant charge $300+ for something like a wash and wax. Aside from that $150 for an AIO, interior wipe down, vacuum, spray wax, and tires dressed is my starting price. The only car id charge $150 for is a car off the show room floor basically. With that said, i think my prices for where my business is at, metaphorically and literally, is appropriate. Sure id love to charge more but im not in a position to charge premium rates yet.

if business side doesn`t worth it , than don`t do it. simple.
use that time to find real clients.
not even walmart don`t give an 200$off on a $300 price tag....
