71 HEMI Cuda Convertible 4 speed

People may own these old cars but when you think about your essentially a caretaker of them.

How true that statement is. I have been taking care of this car since 1973. Cut out all the rust, brought most of it from the brink of death and restored to it's former glory. I told the daughter it was her inheritance or my retirement. I am 60 now, so I have owned this car for 41 years and really cannot imagine it going elsewhere. Hopefully when the time comes the daughter will have a place for it.

I'm 44 yrs old and just not mechanically inclined, have no patience or you could say I have 2 left thumbs, LOL! I've always kept my cars up though, cleanliness and preventative maintence wise too, this way they don't break down. My current car has no spare tire, so I'd bust out the fix-a-flat and go that route. Back to working on cars though, they're made to NOT be worked on by the average Joe, so if you think about its just the way things have evolved, look no further than stickshifts going away for instance and now its been said by experts I heard talking on "Autoline" that cars that drive themselves is as close as 2020, the tech is almost there now, Nissan is said to be ready by 2018 according to the panel of experts on this matter. I for one love tech in cars, a lot of it makes things much better but a computer driving the car is waaaaay across the line IMO!

They started heading towards not working on your own vehicle in the 80's. The wife took her Toyota to the dealer for a front end alignment and they called saying it needed brakes (400.00) a cabin air filter (40.00) and a serpentine belt (80.00). I did all of that for 80.00. The day I have to go to the dealer for those items will be a cold day in he** (climate change ya know). I will continue to fix what I can for as long as I can.

It`s not a 3.5 Mill. story but one worthy of sharing. My love affair with the 57 Chevy started in the late 60`s.At 14 there was a Thom McCain shoe salesman that bought and sold TRI-FIVES and stored and sold them off of the property.Need shoes or a car today? One day I go to look and see a flamed 57 hard top but out of my price range of $2000.00.Nice car.I bought another one at $175.00.I move into a rooming house in Long Branch, NJ and low and behold look who moves in next door...Bruce Springsteen and that 57 Chevy. He latter explains that it took him 6 months to write the song "Born to Run" while driving around town.At the end of the summer of 1975 the car is once again offered for sale at $2300.00 as the "ORIGINAL SUICIDE MACHINE".Still could`nt afford it but parked my car next to his in a common parking lot that whole summer while he was on tour.He has a nice collection to this day.

Hey Grandpa, "Cool Story Bro" is a catchphrase often used in a sarcastic response to a lengthy or off-track story that one could really not care less about.

So did you mean it here??

LOL Derek! I mean't in honestly but fused that term in because it entered my head for some reason. I really didn't know the exact meaning but I should've known this because its usually someone wearing white sunglasses, LOL!

Ha, I know someone who knew someone who worked in Springsteen's crew before he got famous, you probably bumped into him too. But you can't even recognize Long Branch anymore, eh?

"See Above" stat #3, not all GN's are all black and they made FWD GN's too, there you go, LOL!

Gotta call shenanigans on this one... no way was a Buick Grand National ever made with FWD! They made skylark and other fwd Buick GS's (Grand Sport) in the 80's but not grand nationals.

Also I believe the non-black cars you are talking about are the Buick T-types NOT grand nationals.

Ah the Lloyd Reuss days when there was a T-Type of every model! I think Klasse is right they did finally make some GN's in different colors than black...I'm thinking silver and red.

There were something like 112 1986 Buick LeSabre Grand Nationals built. They were definitely front drive.

The 454 didn't come in a Vette till 70', sorry to be so geeky but I love Corvettes! I know its hard for people to deal with "those dang computers" but the advantages are plenty but I guess its just the generation you grew up in. I'm no mechanic so the modern cars are great for me, had an 87' GN in the mid 90's and never looked back but had a modded 78' Caprice w/ 406 s/b, 4000 stall and 4.88 gear, so I've been on both sides of the fence you could say, LOL!

I was just looking for this info a few days ago.

Which 454 came in the Corvettes? I know they had at least 2. Was the LS6 or LS5 available in the Corvette, or was there another one available?

454 cu in (7.4 L) LS5 Big-Block V8 (1970–1972)
454 cu in (7.4 L) LS6 Big-Block V8 (1971)
454 cu in (7.4 L) LS4 Big-Block V8 (1973–1974)

454 cu in (7.4 L) LS5 Big-Block V8 (1970–1972)
454 cu in (7.4 L) LS6 Big-Block V8 (1971)
454 cu in (7.4 L) LS4 Big-Block V8 (1973–1974)

Ah. So in '71, didn't they lower the HP of the LS6 from '70? The '70 Chevelle LS6 was the most powerful engine GM had. By '71, the LS6 was no longer available in the Chevelle and the LS5 HP was lowered from what I understand.

If I remember well HP came down every year on those engines , as for almost any engines .

390 HP in 1970 on LS5s , 365 HP on 71 LS5s , 270 HP on 72 LS5s .

425 HP on LS6s for 1971 .

As for 73-74 , LS4s where rated at 275 HP .

The LS6 never came in the Corvette from the factory.

1986 Le-Sabre Grand National was an option for that model year, either 112 or 117 were built. To the earlier point, the 82 Regal Grand National was two-tone pewter/black and the vast majority of them were 4.1L V6's NA but its said a few 3.8L turbos made it out, no GN's were made available to the public in 83, just like NO Corvettes.

I think that's a little misleading, IIRC they were selling Corvettes in '83, they just weren't selling '83 Corvettes; they continued making '82's until the '84 came out.
