Meguiars DA MF Correction system help

The Meguiar's DA Microfiber System as currently configured includes three steps

-Compound
-Polish
-Finishing Wax

Someone please show me where they are getting the info that D301 has cutting ability. Not some other Forum Member who swears it does....something in print from the manufacturer or one of their representatives.

It is the pad doing the cutting, not the D301


I just want to make sure that people are not expecting something from a product that it was not designed to do on its own.

I don't see the words "on its own" anywhere?

I assure you Senor Stoops is referring to D301 applied with a DA on a MF pad


The product has no cut by itself and I still have not seen anyone of authority say it does.

Is M205 a finishing polish?

It is on a grey or even white LC pad.

Put it on a MF or Orange LC and it becomes a cutting polish that will remove 1500 grit sanding marks.

Pad + Polish determines cutting ability.

The two cannot be considered independently.
 
Agreed on pad plus polish, but from what I read, he states it has light cut, nowhere in that sentence does he mention the pad. If you read his comments on D302, Mr. Stoops mentions it finishes even better than the wax does on delicate paint, which indicates to me it has even less cut than the wax.

First of all, Mike Phillips didn't work at Meguiar's when this system was introduced. Second of all, Jason Rose of Meguiar's ABSOLUTELY stated that D301 has some abrasives in it to refine any hazing left by D300.
 
One more comment from Mr. Stoops: Meguiars M205 vs D301

He seems to prove what both of us are saying, it does have a tiny bit of cut, but most of the cut is coming from the pad. As always, the great thing about the MF system is, it is a system, to my knowledge, the only one of its' kind. Most, if not all others are trial and error on tool speed, pads, etc.
 
I recall Jason Rose saying some place (AMMO Podcast?) that D302 has no abrasives - it's a "pure polish" (like PB's Pro Polish) - I believe D301 has mild "cleaners". Take that for what it's worth. "Cleaners" are probably mild abrasives. However, I'm guessing most of the cut is done by the pad - since these two products are considered interchangeable for finishing purposes.

Eh, Jason Rose said in the DAMF video, that D301 "refines the finish" or something like that. A look at the MSDS's shows D300 has aluminum oxide while the D301 has calcined clay, which is what is in #7 etc. and would normally be considered a filler or cleaner ingredient by people that like to argue about this stuff.

That is what I remember being said about D301, but that seems at odds with the MSDS, unless the SMAT abrasives are different than the D300 (and not hazardous), or the amount is so small it doesn't have to be reported on the MSDS.
 
Interesting conversation

I plan to try a few combinations on the test hoods down at Meguiar's at the next TNOG to see if I can get D301 to cut on anything other than the MF Polishing Pad.

If Art Hernandez is there, I'll ask him to do a short video.

Yeah, as has been pointed out in the past, there's no standardized definitions, and I remember having this discussion on another forum about whether the clay in #7 is an abrasive, a cleaner, a filler...and I think we settled on that it's an abrasive but it's "functionally non-abrasive"...so there you go, clear as clay.
