I've been eagerly waiting to have an opportunity to review this wax. For some reason though I've been swamped with coatings or daily drivers in for paint sealants. I think it is time for Drew to develop either of those options since I could have review a dozen of his products over the last few months.

I was one of the first to jump on the Son1c Wax Carnaubavore (got #7), and was one of the lucky ones to try the PW93 which is the last version before the retail release of Son1c Wax Phoenix, which I reviewed (click here), so as soon as I heard word that it was going to be available in its retail form I contacted Drew to see if I could get #7, which is was more than happy to set aside for me. As the commercial picture below, the wax comes in a 150ml (a little over 5oz) plastic container and does have 2 of the best foam applicator I have used so far.

So let's break it down:

  1. Smell: There is no denying that any wax Drew makes is going to smell ridiculously good, regardless if it is a Protowax or a full fledged retail product. I could not put a finger on what this wax smelled like until someone mention Cherry Starburst. There is no better description!! In any case, you won't find a better smelling wax on the market unless you are buying Carnaubavore
  2. Texture: This wax unlike the previous "all natural" Carnaubavore is much softer and velvety.
  3. Application: Simple enough, use the foam applicator and prime it. Be warned a little goes a LONG way. I actually loaded the applicator and folded it on itself and rubbed it together to make sure it was properly loaded and that I did not have any glob. I did apply out of the sun however this wax is toted to be sun friendly.
  4. Hazing: This time, I applied in the middle of a HOT day, with relative humidity at 70%. With PW93 it took a while because it was getting cooler (in the evening) and I was dealing with 100% humidity. This time, it hazed in about 5 minutes.
  5. Removal: Unlike Carnaubavore which contained an insane amount of Carnauba wax/oil, it was a breeze to remove. I used a deep pile high quality MF (not sold by AG) and removed without streaking, or oily residue left to detract from the gloss/reflection.
  6. Look: I would say that it is very similar in warmth and gloss when comparing it to Carnaubavore, but I would give the "wet look" award to Carnaubavore, even though Phoenix has a high concentration of Carnauba wax in it.
  7. Impression: Compared to the other waxes I've tested and reported on, I would give Phoenix the win in looks and a close second in ease of application and removal. It is a GREAT high end wax, but I would select Carnaubavore for my show car (wetter look)
  8. Rating: I would give this wax a solid 8.5/10 and is definitely on my short list of preferred wax (very short list). Why I did not give a 10/10?? Because Carnaubavore does have a little better depth and gloss and because I have one more wax that is slightly easier to remove.

Now on to the pictorial!! The subject at hand was a 2003 "50th Anniversary" Corvette Z06. She was a little abuse so before applying the LSP we had some work to do (I may post a Show and Shine later on).

Hi Claude...

Thanks for your well-written review and thoughts on this SON1C Wax. :xyxthumbs:

I, too, like the characteristics of Drew's Carnaubavore Wax.
Haven't tried his Phoenix. Probably should though.

Nice review Claude! What do you think about layering carnaubavore on top of Phoenix?

Thanks Bob! I knew I was going to get a comment from the Corvette man himself. If you like Carnaubavore you will love Phoenix.

Eric, that is CRAZY!!!! The combination of those two would set off the next stage in the Apocalypse. All joking aside, that is a novel idea. I wonder though if the solvents in Carnaubavore would not affect the Phoenix? I nominate you to test it ;):props:

I potentially have a 2011 black cts-v coupe coming in for a full correction that I just might do that on! I was thinking since carnaubavore was softer it would top Phoenix well, kind of like the way dodo juice waxes are meant to have a soft wax top a hard wax. Dunno about the solvent issue you mentioned, hopefully Drew can chime in on that.

When you mentioned layering the two, it made me think of Dodo like you mention! Try it, bet it will be cool. I used BFMS over Blackice(Jsmooth on ACC suggested). Layering waxes is nice and fun!

Nice job Claude, nice write up.

Let's get him to comment, I agree! I would love to hear about your experimentation. I remember Carnaubavore to pop the flake like crazy, combined that with Phoenix and we may have a major win. If that works then he should have a Ying/Yang pour LOL!

Layering is like opening presents on Christmas morning, you never know what you gonna get and to be honest it is less about the present than the thrill and anticipation of the unknown. I now wish I had that vette back to experiment :(

I'm glad you've enjoyed the wax claude!

As far as layering you can certainly layer these waxes, they could be layered either way as you can layer anything anyway. Results may vary.

Regarding Carnaubavore and Phoenix they use completely different ingredients besides t1 brazilian carnauba. So while this is the case they will cooperate with each other. I would personally recommend layering Phoenix over Carnaubavore. Soft over hard.

"Da man" as spoken, and would agree on the "soft over hard" concept. Thanks for clarifying it.!

Yo Mustang GT dude!! I am going to buy one of your waxes very soon (this weekend probably). From 1 Mustang GT dude to another....I am leaning towards Carnaubavore...before I hit click is that the route to go? My ride is Black and I never work in the sun.....

Sorry for the dumb question in advance.....LOL

What other waxes do you like?

Do you like hard waxes or soft waxes?

It's definitely not a dumb question my fellow mustang gt dude lol

Just wanted to say I tried Phoenix on our blue 2012 BMW 328i and was very impressed with the results.
