I had the pleasure of recently detailing this uber rare 2011 BMW 1M. The car had a ton of water spots and a few swirl marks. The owner wanted to get rid of these defects and wanted the car to look its best. This was indeed an amazing opportunity and I want to thank the owner for trusting me with his baby. Now, we'll let the pictures do the talking.

Here are some pictures of the car when the owner dropped it off.

I really wanted to start the wash but the car was still hot. While waiting for the car to cool off, I decided to start cleaning up the interior. Here are some pictures of it:

I vacuumed the whole interior. Here are some after pictures:

After vacuuming the cabin, I proceeded to wipe down the interior using Meguiar's Quik Interior Detailer and a clean microfiber towel. This stuff rocks!

The sun was setting really fast and it was getting dark outside. I really wanted to get the wash process started before it gets dark out.

As usual, I always get started with the wheels. Here are the tools I used for this task:

Spraying Sonax Wheel Cleaner:
13%2520-%2520Wheel%2520During.JPG

Letting Sonax dwell and do its thing on that nasty BMW brake dust. I had to do 2 applications because the brake dust was caked on.

After all this was done. I foamed the car to loosen all the dirt and proceeded with a 2 bucket wash.

After drying the car, I inspected the paint for the presence of bonded contaminants. The paint didn't feel like it had a lot of contaminants but I decided to clay it anyways. For this task, I used the Nanoskin Autoscrub towen with Meguiar's Last Touch as my clay lube.

Now on to the polishing phase. Since the owner wanted his car to look its best, I suggested we do a 2 step polish and he agreed. For the initial compounding step, I elected to use Meguiar's M100 with the 5" Meguiar's microfiber cutting pad along my Rupes 21ES with the 5" BP installed. Of course, I have my traditional DA (G100) hooked up with a 3" backing plate for those hard to reach areas. After the initial compounding step, I decided to polish the paint and amp up the gloss with Meguiar's M205, Meguiar's 7" Foam finishing pad and the G100 with the appropriate BP installed.

Equipment to be used:

The following pictures are from the initial compounding step.

For hard to reach areas, I opted to choose my G100 with a 3" LC backing plate. I used M100 with a 3" microfiber cutting disc for this.

After all the polishing was done, it was time to seal and wax the paintwork. Since the car was very special, I wanted to apply something special as well so I opted to use Wolfgang Fuzion. A nice German car like this deserves a nice German wax like Fuzion.

Letting the LSP cure. This is what it means to have a thin coat!!!

After about an hour, I wiped off the Fuzion and I was left with an amazing, jaw-dropping and eye popping shine. Here are some after pictures:

What do you guys think? Opinions, comments and criticisms are welcome!

Awesome job and color!

I do have to ask though, why no gloves?

Mark, it's been a while since you posted some work. Great comeback with this bimmer. X2 on wearing some protection for your hands/skin.

Man oh man! Incredible work Marc! What an amazing job putting some shine on that little 1M.

Really loving the after pictures. Striking. I see your getting better with your DSLR.

The only thing to make it better was using Flex/Menzerna. Just teasing. lol

Hey Marc,

This car's color is not even close to my taste, but let me tell you after this detailed work it's now on my list. Looks amazing, you did an awesome job!

The pictures are gorgeous and even the polishing work being pristine, my favorite pic is the Engine/After... very beautiful transformation.

Great car, color (I'm converted!), work and showdown, a pleasure to follow your thread.

Keep them coming!

Thanks a lot for sharing,

Kind Regards.

GREAT WORK!!!

That Valencia Orange is one of the top 10 best colors every squirted onto a car by a mfg IMO!

So I take it from your choice of compounds/polishes that the 1M doesn't have the typical super soft BMW clear? I ask because a buddy of mine may get me to do his. Same color and everything!

Great job btw, it looks great.

Thanks a lot, af90! I was in a rush to finish the wash as it was getting dark out. And I didn't think that soapy water will be a problem. Looking back, the brake dust particles and the chemical residue that goes back into my soapy water bucket could be an issue.

Thanks so much for the compliments Cg6LeMoN! I appreciate it. I answered the question regarding the gloves above. :)

Thanks a lot buddy! I appreciate it. I really tried to get good shots with this amazing car. I'm happy it turned out well.

Next time, I'll make sure to use Menzerna. :) Can I borrow your Flex?

Thank you so much Tato! I'm glad you enjoyed reading my show and shine thread. I enjoyed detailing this car as well and the outcome was the icing on the cake.

Outstanding work Marc! That orange looks superb and so rich! Great to see you are still at it :).

Thank you, Caleb! I love this color! Only way to go in a 1M IMO.

Beautiful work! That HAS to be a fun car to drive!!

Thanks, damaged442! I'm sure it is! Sounds badass with his exhaust setup.

GREAT WORK!!!

Thanks a lot, Roger! I love orange paint jobs. This is a prime example. Another one is the Lime Rock E92 M3. Next is the orange Murcielago. Yum!

Thanks Iron Worker!

I think that M205 with the pad/polisher combo would have been fine for the swirls. However, the car had bad water spots which req'd me to step it up to M100.

You definitely killed it my friend! Looks awesome:)

Thanks a lot, Sicoupe! Much appreciated.

Hopefully the car stayed out of the rain you guys just got! My family is at our house in Scottsdale and they said there was a torrential rainfall last week. Waterspots are rampant from what I've seen in Arizona.

Amazing work by the way. With the departure of the E46 M3, this is my new favorite BMW. (Although the new M4s are pretty fun to drive as well.)

How did you manage the Rupes with all those curved body lines? Did you have to use the PC quite a bit?

The car looks Awesome Marc!!!!! Great Job!

Good to see you posting up some work again......stick around!
