Costco MF question

Yeah I think we've mentioned that a few times over the summer and fall. After a few washes they look similar but I find myself grabbing one and commenting on its "feel". If my wife happens to be in the garage at the time she immediately comments that I'm nuts! Luckily I really only use them for utility purposes so the batches don't have to be segregated. All the yellow lightweight towels I own are utility towels.

Yours too? LOL. I get made fun of all the time, either needing time to reorganize products/tools or the time she caught me smelling the MF's when working a on car (I can tell all my products apart from smell alone, and it's how I know what MF was used for what when I get to multitasking). And because I don't fold my own clothes (I hang them or the get stuffed in drawers) but I take my sweet time folding my MFs.

I figure you're actually underestimating there. I use two towels on the hood minimum. And of course the roof is a lot bigger than the hood.... that's good for two towels if not three.

About the only place you can save towels is the glass where of course you could just flip it over and use the back side, not like it'll swirl. ;)

I'll tell him to only use the 36 count for the paint and glass. That'll leave almost 3 per panel. I'll pick up set of cheaper ones for the wheels.

Honestly.... for what they cost, 41¢ (or so) each I don't know if there are any out there that are cheaper. :dunno: I mean there are some that ARE cheaper 'construction wise' like the thin solid blue and white ones from wall Wal-Mart (their cheapest ones but they are still more expensive than the Costco version per towel. (I'm told Wal-Mart have several different ones now, some costing $4~$5 each). :dunno:

It's really no problem though with the Kirkland's if they do get dirty, just chunk um'. ;)

Where the REAL problem will be is getting him used to drying. I'd SERIOUSLY suggest a few decent towels for that duty. I have really good results with 530gsm units from Microfiber Tech (in any size) or of course a dedicated Korean waffle weave drying towel. What concerns me though about waffle weaves is they are not very thick, (which means not very soft). The Cobra Guzzler drying towel though is foam core and REALLY dries a vehicle well.

With any of the above I still don't wipe when drying. I'll lay the towel (or two at a time if I'm using 16"x16") down flat, deep pile side down, and then gently pat and/or rub them with an open hand (but not moving the towel). That tends to get at least 95% of all the water up. :)

And of course once the OCD kicks in it's time for a spray wax, Duragloss AW, or a polymer spray like WG or BF or whatever with another, softer, clean, different, THIRD or is that FOURTH type of towel to go over the entire thing YET AGAIN! :laughing:
 
Doing RW on a daily driver I don't get too picky about technique. As long as I've used a good medium to lay down a generous amount of decent product solution, I'll use two 500+ gsm 16x16 towels per panel or section, one to lift the solution and one to buff. Naturally this works better on a car with a good LSP. There is some amount of wiping with the first pass towel, but again, with a decent product like ONR or D114 I just don't worry too much. On a fancier car, yeah, I'd blot dry or rinse and use air.
 
For drying, I was going to recommend QD (I have some V7 to donate) drying aid and give him my old, but still good polish removal MFs.

Wax application/removal we I'll be on him lol. I'll steer him in the right direction of course; I'll write him an email with links to here and YouTube.
 
Figures, go to Costco to finish up my Christmas shopping and they're out of the MF's. Are these seasonal?

Anyone have a suggestion that I can get last minute? I be looking at amazon, as they can still get me stuff by Wednesday with next day shipping.
 
That's the way to go then, for linty utility towels. If you can get CP Boas or CG towels with Prime, that'll work.

Checked amazon, they have the Kirklands but $30 prime for 36. Still a good deal for those?

Which GC, they have several on there.
 
I can't even find the Kirkland MFs on the Costco site...

The orange bangers are nice and plush towels, one of my favorites
 
Well, I'll be going a different route I guess, too late on amazon shipping too.



Any recommendations for rinseless MFs that can be found locally for a fair price.
 
I just got the Costco towels yesterday. A very similar if not slightly better towel is the Viking Premium Autocloth. They are 24 inches long so they can be folded more times for a rinseless wash. They come in a roll of 3 at O'Reilly.
