WTH is up with tire shops as of late?

LOL I knew they were getting bad. I think it ran a little low on air which compounded the neg camber. I found a small nail when I removed it. it was the front right. Problem is, the side walls are so stiff on the Yokohama AD08r's that it was hard to tell at first. As I was driving on the freeway at like 75 I just slowly felt the car pulling, Then decided to pull over and see what it was. Even looking at it stopped it was hard to tell it was flat.

No body work messed up. It never blew. If it wasn't for the pulling I wouldn't have known. I don't carry a spare but luckily it happened close to a friends work with the same car. So I walked over there, borrowed his car to get his spare and changed it out.

I run -3 camber up front, about -1.8 on the rear but on purpose for the track. Running Ohlins coilovers. The tires actually don't wear as fast as you would think but I didn't keep up with my rotation/flipping schedule and didn't check pressure as often as I usually do. Plus I hadnt had much time for canyon runs or track events to help them wear a little more evenly. I can usually get close to 20k miles out of them. They are just amazing tires. As bald as they are they still don't give up grip that easily. I was able to stay right on the butt of a Boss 302 with Toyo R compound tires through the canyons by Mulholland with tires this bald. And he was no slouch of a driver.

This new detailing business plus my regular job are taking too much of my track time. lol. Going to have to set weekends aside for track days.

Well it's been over a week since he ordered the wheels. (I wonder). So he is getting a call monday. If that idiot has any excuses i am turining this over to corprate monday and i will also contest the charge on the credit card. SO DONE WITH THIS!

I just got a NAIL in my dealerships parking lot on Thursday.
I have a 2014 Mini Cooper with the run flat tires.

So that night i took my wheel off, washed it, and taped it all up to bring into discount tire to get the tire patched.....

I should have removed all the weights.... well little did i know, they freaking used something sharp and scratched the crap out of my wheel where the weight is.

Some i polished out, while some removed the PAINT of my wheel.

But the patching and re balancing was done FREE, so i really can't complain....

They left 1 original weight on my wheel and added extras of theirs. SO i left that one alone.

So then i removed the weights they added on to polish out the scratches.

Had to bring it in for balancing at a different discount tire.
Well this time they charged me $10... vs free patching.
But now, this time the guy removed my ORIGINAL weight off my tire, and put another deep scratch mark on it.

I think it is our eyes as detailers that catches all the imperfections.
Really need to learn how to do mount and balance myself and find a shop that let me use their machine lol....

Well balancing is easy... just the mounting part.

Jesus. WTH. Something as simple as you had done and they still messed it up.

Anyone has a right to be picky when taking a vehicle in for simple service. Fact remains my wheel faces were pristine BEFORE they mounted tires. Something touched them during mounting. Plain and simple. He saw them and openly addmitted to the scratches.

Lol i know right, i can't imagine the outcome if i hadn't taped it up, i taped the FRONT and REAR of the wheel to protect the paint.
My wheels are BLACK also, so it would stick out like a sore thumb.

They also took off the paint where the center cap sits into, when they were securing it on the machine for balancing.... Luckily you can't see it when the center cap is in.

Dude that sucks!!! I'd be livid!
Ugh this sucks. Sorry man.

Well where else to bring it to for tires....?

I once tried to get my windows tinted at a shop that only service HIGH END cars, Ferraris and lambos.

They ended up accidentally dropping a engine stand on the hood of my car.

Take your wheels to a place that refinishes wheels. Obviously, if they are powder coating wheels - they have the equipment to mount and balance tires. They are also acutely familiar and aware of how easy it is to scratch wheels - since they know if they scratch a set of wheels they refinished - they are going to be doing it again.

This way is a PIA. But, if they damage the wheels - refuse to accept them unless they refinish them. I use Wheel Collision Center in Bath PA. I'm sure there are places in most cities that are reputable that do this type of work.

Bring them the wheels and tires off the car - clean with no weights. Don't give them the "opportunity" to air gun your wheels on to 400 ft lbs with their new Mac 3/4" air gun.

Most people probably aren't going to go through this, and just go to Budget Tires 4 Less! or wherever, but when you go to those places you get low paid people who may not care too much about what they are going. So; you get what you get there.

That's a great idea, thanks for sharing.

I went from $60 service where the machines were scratching my wheels to $130 service from a different shop to get the guarantee they won't scratch.

Well, got a call this am. (I did not call yesterday. Our land line was down and i did not want to do this over a cell. Its back to working today?) He got them in friday. Called yesterday, but of course to my dead phone. Got the wrong wheels in. The X and S trim wheels are different than the pro 4x wheels. He admitted it was his fault. (I thought this might happen) The right ones might be here by friday. Well at least it appears they are doing the right thing. What a comedy of errors. LOL.

Well, it's something.
Keep on it.

39 Days later, i finally got the new wheels!
passout.gif
Not quite the same finish, but this is a gun metal gray/silver. I like it better than what i had on. Looked them over before accepting them. 100% PERFECT. NO MOUNTING DAMAGE. Imagine that. I wanted my old ones back to sell, but they needed them as a core charge. $140/wheel if i wanted them. The roads are dry, so i got a chance to seal them with the DP WHEEL COAT. Calling for bad weather tonight. THANK GOD THIS IS OVER!

I'm glad this is over for you :dblthumb2:

HOWEVER- I think it's BS they would charge you for your wheels. I would want them back as well.....

Core charge my a$$!!!!

If they replaced them, I am not sure why they would give them to you.

I would expect the tire shop to keep the original wheels. They gave a new set so that he would be right back to where he started before he visited the shop. Same thing if they got them refinished, you'd only have one set.

I had wheels replaced before for the same reason.
The shop gave me my old wheels back. If you choose not to take them back, that's something different.

Just me... I guess I'm a hardass
