1978 Trans Am - Sell it or Keep it?

My completely uneducated guess on this car is around 40-50k. What is your friend expecting to sell it for?

Mike why not call Wayne Carini for your friend? That may not be the type of vehicle he specializes in but he has worldwide contacts that could certainly help. Point being, the worth of the car would determine whether to sell or not.

Was this the car from Fast N Loud that they had Burt sign?

That is one of the major problems with people seeing car on auctions fetch big money. Although his car is very nice and in great condition, there is very little extra value in having Bert's signature on the car. I would say that is a 30-35k car possibly "if" you can find the right buyer. I have been a long time T/A nut and have owned quite a few T/A's and Firebirds.

After watching a lot of Mecum and Barrett Jackson, I would guess $25-35k, which after seller premium would net 15% less. Will probably hold value, but timing the market on anything is difficult. It's also a bucket list car for me, having seen Smokey and the Bandit in grade school. He has to decide on what it's worth to him, factoring in finances and nostalgia value.

FWIW, I would also love to get my hands on a Jim Rockford gold firebird to do some tire squealing "Rockford" J-turns. Don't remember what the $6M dollar man drove, but it was probably cool.

^^^I can't remember that either.^^^

But I do remember that Wonder Woman flew
an invisible plane; and loved this time of year:

Happy Holidays!!

...any car would be for sale for the right price!
+1 every thing is for sale for the right price.
As I tell my wife, everything is for sale at the right price!
Slowly, over the last 30 years or so: it appears to me that the U.S. has drifted from having a market-based economy, to that of a Nation also having a market-based society.
Therefore...IMHO: The market has triumphed!

I dare ask: Where should money’s writ not run?

Bob

IMO if he wants to sell he should do it in the next 10 years maybe less. Those era firebirds have been on a huge upswing over the past 5 to 8 years. I think the collector car market is going to go through a huge adjustment as all the baby boomers exit the market and flood it with quality cars. Right now too many people view collector cars as substitute 401k funds and are not in it for the passion.

My opinion is the firebird will have a few more years of value growth then fall off.

My .02, if you can afford it, ENJOY IT.

Not my cup of tea but nice nonetheless!!

Mike why not call Wayne Carini for your friend?

No need to... after flying Wayne around half a day on Saturday Wayne and Mark became good friends and Mark has Wayne's phone number.

If and when Mark makes the decision to offer this Trans Am for sale, I'm sure Mark will discuss with Wayne for any suggestions or help.

You'll also see pictures of it after we detail it here at Autogeek's new Show Car Garage!

***Update***

Mark stopped by with the Trans Am yesterday, 12-22-2014 so I took a few pictures using a swirl finder light and my trusty dusty Canon Rebel t5i

Looks good under the shade of the AG building...

From experience the type of scratches you see in the pictures above AND the age of the paint makes doing any type of heavy correction a tick on the risky side.

That said, we're going to see what we can do for a special project.

Stay tuned...

:)
