FG400 Question

How is your pad holding up?

It's holding up really well! I always feel the pads after I do a section and it's not warm at all! (I did get the thicker of the two hydro-techs.) The dusting is definitely a lot less with this pad as well. I also notice that I can put more pressure with a flat pad too? Hydro-tech is a 10/10 for me right now. I do hear they break down faster though.

Excellent! Thanks for the reply.

I've read countless threads regarding the fragile nature of these pads, but I welcome the challenge. I'm not particularly hard on my pads or machines, but I still achieve my goals.

Glad to hear that you're seeing the results you wanted! You may try and get a thin HT pad to test with also, especially if you're using a PC. It will likely cut a tad more, but you'll have to feel it for heat build up like you are with the thicker pad. Glad you like FG400 now, it is a phenomenal product.

Thank you for all help!

I also feel like with the thicker pad that it wants to try to "walk" a little more. It is centered for sure. Is this just a byproduct of it being bigger, would the smaller walk less?

I also heard the same things about breaking down faster unfortunately. I think it's also one of those things about not overheating it as heat with most things in life, wears things down prematurely.

Try the Meg's new thin cutting pad in 5". Doesn't matter if it's not closed cell, it still works excellent with FG400. It will cut just as good or better and finish better than the Cyan pad. Much more durable, too.

So out of curiousity what's the scoop on thin pads? I see Lake Country has thin pad variants as well (like the Cyan) is there any advantages? I'm assuming they are going to heat up quicker and absorb less.

With a DA like a PC, you want the least rotational mass possible. Less mass = more rotation = better correction.

Try the 5" Meg's cutting disc. You will love them, trust me. More durable than the cyan pad as well.
