Microfiber Towels

Bill @ Duragloss sent me the triple-pack, mitt, polish & drying towel to sample. They are similar to Zanio blondes btw.

Say it ain't so! I had a thread about this on the other forum about 5 years ago, including a side-by-side picture, if it survived.

Edit: Nope, the pictures didn't make it through the transition(s) for some reason, which is strange because they are in the forum gallery: Got a Couple of Unusual New Towels...

I intend to add to my collections of Eagle and Split Purple-nality 16x16s before spring

Do you get the wholesale price or something on those purple towels? Because even the 50 pc price on TRC website is way more than the 3 pc price for an Elite Ultra Fine at MFT which seems to be a similar towel.

The first few were five at a time, yes, but with sale discounts (20% off BF/CM for example) and free USPS Priority shipping they are a great deal. Yes, I intend to go the wholesale route next time if shipping doesn't negate the savings.

I dunno, the MFT pricing is low enough that if you're buying enough towels I would think that would come out lower even with having to pay shipping. Plus you earn some points or something at MFT.

Got a question, do you wash your brand new microfiber before use?

I noticed dye and film residue on brand new microfiber after I applied GTechniq C1 and the applicator pad has lint and dye reside from the color of the microfiber I used

Thanks

I wouldn't rule out 16x24, depending on the price difference, as it gives you a few more sides to flip too and more padding between your hand and the paint. So you'd need less towels to do a safer job.

But if 16x16 is the only way to go for you, stick to it.

I really like the green towels that come with the Menzerna Ceramic Intro Kit here at AG, but I can't find them for sale here.

I just received my order of Microfiber Madness towels today. I got a few Crazy Pile, and Slogger. WOW those things are pricey... Still excited to use them though.

Of course there is the Meguiar's Supreme Shine. Very soft, and effective. Kind of a "no brainer" for a guy like me. I wonder what the gsm on those would be...

As far as plush towels go, I bought a ton of the teal Viking ultra plush before they were discontinued, and replaced with the dark blue ones. The new version is so thick that they are almost unusable. I use those for qd.

You'll love Crazy Pile, one of the few towels that actually comes as it's pictured and works better than the description. Not given the "Big Mac" effect, lol. Pricey, yes, but I haven't seen another towel like it (albeit, in my limited experience compared to some people on here, lol.) I got mine on sale from CP.

Yeah, like I said above, there are a number of sources. If you've had good dealings with a company and are comfortable with what they charge for the products that have pleased you, it's a win. Even if a price is somewhat higher overall I tend to reward good customer service by sending a company my money, but the bottom line is I have to like the products I've been sold.

The same way Nick, Meghan and the whole crew here at AG keep earning my trust and business, Jeff and the team at TRC will keep getting orders from me as well because I'm not just a number to them. My tiny orders seem to be as important to these companies as orders from high-volume pro detail shops.

Gold plush mfs are my favorite go to towel for anything since they have a duel pile. The short nap is great for polish removal

I still have them on my computer, it's weird that the links are in the thread for all 3, but only one of the pictures is in my gallery over there, and it doesn't work (I suspect the path changed during the upgrade). I had already looked in my gallery here and they're not. If you guys really want to see the pictures I can upload them here, they're not earth-shattering. I wanted to edit that other thread but I'm about 5 years past the edit window.

Post them up.....I would love to see them. Plus I think some of new guys would like to see the differences or the similarities.

Yeah, ok. Zaino towel is on the left, DG on the right, and yes, the DG is only hemmed on one end because it's a double-thickness towel that's folded over somehow, I don't remember really, it's buried in a box somewhere. I hope this was worth it.

I like MFT, but what you're comparing is Apples & Oranges:

The Elite Ultra Fine being a 500 GSM 16" x 16" Chinese 70/30 blend towel, versus The Split Purple which is a Korean 345 GSM 16" x 16" 70/30 Blend.

Suppliers don't just charge more for Korean because they can, the labor costs are substantially higher for Korean than something from China, regardless of GSM or Blend.

A better comparison between MFT & TRC would be MFT's Elite Ultra Fine vs. TRC's Spectrum towels: 420 GSM Chinese 16" x 16" with an 80/20 Blend.

The blend of a towel doesn't affect price nearly as much as country of origin, so it's definitely a closer match-up.

My mistake, I didn't realize that purple towel was Korean. However, I don't buy into the whole idea that a Korean towel is automatically better than a Chinese one (maybe 10 years ago, but not now). You buy what you want, I have enough towels to last me until after I'm dead so I don't have to worry about it.

The green towels that do come in the kits are really nice towels, I would agree there. I think they are considered all purpose towels on autogeek's site only they come in blue, gray, and yellow...I think those are the same towels but I do not know for sure. Maybe someone from autogeek will chime in there to answer

This is what I have been saying! There is no pissing contest here, nothing to see, move along, move along.

That's alright, I wasn't looking to be confrontational, just informative. I've spent who-knows-how-long researching towels because all the information out there is all over the place.

I'm right there with you on some of the Chinese towels being nearly as good as the Korean stuff for certain uses, I'm not biased: As long as something works the way I need it to, it has a home in my garage.

The only reason I brought up the difference was due to the cost. Korean labor just plain costs more. Whether a Korean towel is measurably better than a comparable Chinese unit or not, it will always cost more.

Good to know! Thanks for the feedback.

This actually got me looking into something else, the Korean WW's at TRC. They are 70/30, while the Korean MFT's are 80/20, and the Chinese ones are 80/20 or 75/25. I looked through all of my WW's and the only ones I found that said they were 70/30 (I have a bunch that I'm not sure) are some Paks I bought 9 years ago (Pak doesn't say on their site, and my towels don't say either, it was some paperwork I had with them, and I'm a little skeptical that their standard vs. ultra soft are the same blend). The Cobra Guzzlers are also 80/20.

Anyway, I was wondering why 70/30 seems to be an unusual blend for WW's and whether the TRC towels seem different, etc., not that I'm sure that that is even the most important determinant vs. weave, fiber split, etc.

Also, since we were comparing Zaino towels. If you check out Wolfgangs Concourse series, they look almost identical as well.
