For those who use AIO products, or Menzerna AIO specifically, what color pads do you find most affective?

When using Menzerna 3n1, I find the white Hybrid pad to give the overall best balance of performance on the 3401.

Go up or down a pad and you will get better cut or more gloss. However the paint will tell you what it likes. Overall the white pad is where to start.

I have had good results on LC CSS orange pad on my Griots.

As stated above I had great success with AIOs using the LC Flat White pads

+1. But the 3in1 is a very versatile product, you can get good results with a lot of different set ups. Try the 3in1 with whatever you have it, before buying new stuff. But the Hybrid system is probably the best line of pads I've ever laid my hands on. It is addictive, you leave all the other pads gathering dust, you just go and grab it, always the first choice. The combination of cutting when applying pressure, and polishing when there is none or light pressure (hence, I believe the name hybrid came from, according to master Tato) is unbeatable. Imho, of course.

I'd say test spot on each car and paint.

You know it'll be different with the hard vs soft paint, and what initial condition is the paint? How much correction do you need?

I have been using XMT 360, and I have had good luck with white LC CCS 5.5" with the PC 7424XP, on the cars which I have used it.

How to choose and use a one-step cleaner/wax by Mike Phillips

Some of the info is based on the class I teach each year at Mobile Tech Expo, Detail Feast and in my Detailing Boot Camp Classes.

Like this part....

Mike Phillips said:
In the old days, before clearcoat paints were the norm and all new cars and repaints were done using single stage lacquer or enamel, there were some very aggressive one-step cleaner/waxes on the market. In fact, I remember seeing products called compound waxes. These products were basically aggressive compounds with wax in them. In one step they could restore severely oxidized single stage paint job and leave behind a water beading shiny finish.

Those days and those products are gone since the introduction of modern clear coats. Those types of products would be too aggressive to use on a clear coat finish as they would leave the paint looking scratched and scoured. That’s not going to win you any customers or friends.

Because modern clearcoat paints are scratch-sensitive, meaning they scratch easily, and because the scratches are highly visible to the naked eye, manufacturers have toned down the aggressiveness of their one-step cleaner/waxes.

Your goal
When doing a one-step, your goal is to use the least aggressive cleaner/wax possible to get the job done because even when using high quality products, pads, tools and techniques, there’s always the risk of leaving micro-marring in the paint.

The secret to successfully doing one-steps
The secret to using a one-step cleaner/ wax without micro-marring the paint is to use the softest foam pad you can get away with. When I say,

Use the softest foam pad you can get away with….

This means you need to do some testing with both your cleaner/wax and some soft foam polishing or waxing pads and test to see if your softest pad will leave behind a clear, shiny finish without micro-marring or hazing the paint. This means you need to have a selection of soft pads in your pad collection.

Examples of soft foam pads include,

Lake Country Hybrid Pads = White & Gray
Lake Country Flat Pads = White & Gray
Lake Country CCS Pads = Pink, White, Green, Gray, Blue, Red and Gold.

For LC Hybrid - White or Black

LC Flat Pads - White or Black

Meguiar's foam discs - Yellow or Black

Try to use the softest pad possible for the best finish results.

The more aggressive the pad the higher the risk the pad will leave visible micro-marring on dark colors. The micro-marring is probably also on light colors it's just your eyes can't see it.
