My new GG Boss 15 review - more questions than answers

Why is everybody buying the boss instead of a rupes? They're practically the same price and it's essentially the rupes design... I know if I decide to get a long throw polisher, it'll be a rupes and not some Chinese made thing sold at a premium price.

It does come across that you have an agenda or chip on your shoulder. Have you used the Rupes and the Boss to form your opinion? Even, if you'd do some research you might find that the Boss is an excellent product with very high quality--not to mention the improvements in form and function compared to the Rupes.

I asked an honest question and made a statement of fact. Sorry that a question and a fact are contrary to your personal opinion, but that's how it works sometimes.

Hi Ski2,

Don't mind jrock. Otherwise his attitude will end up hijacking the thread. If he wants to complain about geopolitical and economic issues, he can start his own thread. His attitude says it all.

Direct driven machines such as rotaries and even ones that are hybrids like the Flex 3401-direct driven+orbital still have a chance of burning paint especially edges and will not finish off as well as a free floating machine. Direct drivens cut fast but free floating DA's finish better.

Don't most guys "jewel" the paint for the utmost gloss using a rotary? Not done on most cars obviously, but I think the rotary will still give the best all out show car shine. For a one step or two step maybe not. I really don't know.

Nice review but most of all beautiful ride!! Excellent work too!! Either decision you make will not be wrong. It's just your preference. Let us know what you decide.

Thanks!

I definitely find the Boss more comfortable to use. Maybe I should just hang on to the Flex vs. taking the loss on selling it.

Your certainly entitled to your opinion and purchase what you'd like with your money. I was going to purchase a Rupes at first and after much, much OCD research, I ended up purchasing the Griot's.

Respectfully, your comments are born out of either an agenda or the need to sensentionalize your views rather than articulate an intelligent and coherent difference in opinion. :)

By your logic there isn't a mobile phone,TV or computer on the market that you'd be able to purchase. And as for Apple, they may as well just close up for business.

I agree with you 100%. S4D.

I have a Rupes 15 and now a Griots G21 and I prefer my new Griots hands down to my Rupes. Ans since I have both that allows me to fairly compare them.

Yeah that guy has zero constructive things to say about anything, his post are always just so negative and offer nothing helpful about detailing. So that being said I'm just ignoring him and adding him to that list so I don't have to read his dribble.

This was done with my Porter Cable with Menzerna 4500.

That's pure polished CC, no LSP, just clean paint.

Thanks!

If it was me....I would keep both. I have the Flex 3401 and PE8 and love them. I still have my PC7424XP and it serves a purpose too. With the correct adapters and backing plates, I now can use all pad sizes for it ranging from 1" to (no more than) 5.5" pads.

You may never know when either of your 2 machines may come in handy.

I still use the PC and even though I outgrew it; it still serves a purpose for my detailing.

I know if I got the Boss, I would still keep the Flex...and vice versa.

So maybe I'm wrong....lol. I was just trying to point out that a great finish can be achieved using a rotary. It's all about the products being used and the skill of the person using the tool. I have limited skills and I was still able to get a very nice finish using Menzerna products and a rotary very quickly. I think if I had done another polishing step with a finishing pad my results would have been even better.

I agree, both machines serve a purpose.

Great, go ahead and buy the less capable polisher.
