Meguiar's MT300 Power Cord Issue

I'm not sure if it's been brought up yet but has anyone opened one up to see exactly what's wrong? Reason I'm asking is for those that don't use their too often (less than 5 times a year) it'll be nice to know that if it did break after the warranty if it'll be an easy fix.

I have a Flex 3401 and it's awesome but I have a PC that I'm looking to replace. I'm looking at either the CG6 or MT300. I'm leaning towards the MT300 because of ergonomics but only if the cord issue is easily fixable out of warranty.

if you are referring to the GG6 you won't be disappointed, it's one heck of a polisher with added benefits of ownership. if you are looking at the CG's polishers, i would definitely pass...

How hard can it be? I've repaired or replaced power cords on many pieces of equipment over the years. It's two or three wires - it's not rocket science.

I agree that it's not rocket science. I've done many electrical work before as well. I'm trying to figure out what exactly is causing the failure. Is it just bad soldering?

Yea I meant to say GG6, not CG.

I made it through an entire car with it after the fix. All things are good so far.

hopefully this is just an isolated case, found this on YT. looks like there is an issue with the speed dial on this particular MT300...

Got mine back pretty quickly (within about 8 or 9 days) fully repaired. They also replaced the little rubber "stand" on the top of the machine as well as installing the new cord. We've now used it on a handful of cars, we have them fitted w/ 3" and 4" backing plates for wet sanding and polishing tighter areas. Seems to be working perfectly now.

That's good to hear. Nice of them to replace that piece. I've used it on 2 full cars now with no issues after getting mine repaired. It's working just fine.

A quick follow up. All was good until today. Same issue once again. This is the second time.

The first time it happened after using after 4-5 vehicles. Well once again it happened after using after 4 vehicles.

Ah the headaches with this machine.

Yep, happend to me as well. I own lots of machines so I always carry replacement cords. I put on a replacement cord (under $10) and was back in business in about 10 minutes.

wow, this is too bad. i couldn't justify spending $200 on this machine with only a 1 year warranty only to have it fail sometime after that (not to reassuring to say the least). not to mention if you were only to use it only a few times a year...

@Visitor. You forgot to mention the GG6. Lol😜
I'm just kidding man.😁😃

Just get something else,

After 2 cars, I returned it and just got rupes 21es because I got so frustrated haha

The good thing is I didn't pay that much since I had a gift card for it. But I totally agree with you.

I don't think it's covered under warranty anymore so I will more than likely open it up and see what the deal is.

I didn't say I wasn't going to get something else. I am going to get the Rupes Mark II. I've pretty much had it with the MT300. I can't return it since I have had it for a year already.

Good to know!

If I can get my hands on a g110v2, I'll pick it up!

no harm done. the thing is, i won't BS anyone on a good recommendation (be it a polisher or detailing products) because i've wasted enough money on a plethora of products over many years due to curiosity and/or hype. i do love meguiar's products though...

I went down that road in the 90's, and ended up throwing 90% of it in the trash.

Not so this time around!

Forgot to report back. I received the DA last week. It was a 4 day turn around time. I will give it a go to see how it works.

It has a new power cord.

Here is some comforting news from the email I received from Brian Han of Meguiar's.

Mike,

Sorry to hear that. Yes, the machine is certainly still under warranty. Since your machine was sent in last we have updated the cord and sleeve in hopes that will fix this issue. The other parts were not poor quality but we are hopeful these small changes will allow the cord to function better over time. You will need to send the machine to our repair facility as you did last time. Please reference Feedback #XXXXX on a note placed in the box with the machine. In case you do not have the address still it is…
