A Note on Engine Detailing

Heavy duty plastic bags or sheets and rubber bands on all electronic modules.
I generally cover the alt. too. It only takes a few minutes to protect them and it can (as was shown) save a LOT of money in repairs.

I did have a "problem child" once. The timing pickup is down low on the engine next to the crank damper. The wiring had been damaged (but not repaired) and was exposed to the water. When I went to start the car it was spitting and missing terribly. So I put the car up on my lift and used compressed air while it was idling until I found the bad spot in the wiring. Then I painted it with liquid electrical tape and that solved the problem. As a matter of fact I gave it three coat. All the way from where the insulator was good all the way onto the connector.
When I mentioned it to the owner he said the car had been missing and running badly every time he drove it in the rain. And THE DEALER was never able to fix it

Nice,I had a 99 brandnew Dodge Durango with a push bar in the front and step bars on the sides. The first month I was hearing a metal rattling sound took it to the dealer 3 times and nothing found.with one hour of my time I searched and searched and found a loose bolt from the push bar underneath where it is mounted.

I too use a power washer every time. Ive done lotsa different cars and never had a single hickup!!!! Get off your high horses about it. IMO it puts out MUCH less water per minute than a hose does. Used far enough away from the engine it is MUCH MUCH MUCH safer than a regular hose.

I've washed my own vehicles engines that way for over 20 years and still do and have never had an issue, never had an electrical issue.

Cadillacs are among the pickiest cars on earth.. I don't even like engaging my parking brake unless I absolutely have to because it has an electronic release, and I've always felt it could easily lead to other weird electrical problems in the car. I know that sounds crazy, but I've had several of these cars and they're picky like that. Lol.

I never saw a sts coupe, maybe he meant ats which is pretty new.

You're right, there's no such thing as an STS coupe. If there was it'd be an Eldorado.

Sorry for the mis-identification.
My neighbors car is an Eldorado.
I was speaking with someone else the night before regarding a quote on their STS, and probably just had that stuck in my mind.
Hope that clarifies it.

There is an Eldorado ETC though

I used to use the power washer at the quarter carwash, have for years. I used to use their engine degreaser and then switch to rinse. I never stood that close when using the high power, in fact I would use low pressure when I could. A lot of times I left the engine running and would drive down the road to help dry it up and then use a ccouple mf towels to finish the water tracks and rest of engine bay. I will say that one time I did a Durango R/T and it threw a CEL for misfire, so I popped off the distributor cap and put a hair dryer near there. Put it back after about 15 mins and cleared the code and it ran fine.

Flashforward to today, I use my 2 gallon hand pump and a quality degreaser like Alien Kleen or DG Orange degreaser and various brushes to do an even better, controlled job.

May I ask how you get the degreaser off the engine bay?

If I understand it, you are spraying a degreaser on, agitating with brushes, and then ______? Wiping it up with mf towels...?

I am just trying to understand the process...

Thanks

Oh sorry about that, I use my 2 gallon hand pump. Takes a little longer but it's low pressure and easy access to fight areas gets the job done. Pretty easy to stick the sprayer where you want it due to its size and light weight.

The young hack ruined an Eldorado by powerwashing the engine and it cost your neighbor $3,000 to have it repaired.. Man, that's just tragic. Smh.

It's nice to see your neighbor really likes that car. There's some people who wouldn't dump 3 grand into a Cadillac with a Northstar. I wonder what exactly got replaced.

Funny thing happened today while I was driving my car. I got in and as soon as I sat down I knew something was odd. I turned the car on and as I began driving down the block I couldn't help but notice I could bearly reach the pedals! And just to show how stubborn I can be sometimes, I continued like that for about a half mile thinking I must be sitting differently and just needed to settle down and get comfortable.

Finally I gave in to the obvious which was that somehow my power seat had been moved back.. Way Back! But I found that impossible to believe since I had just driven to the store and back less than an hour ago, and I Never move my seat from its position. [because the motor for my drivers side power seat is unreliable and doesn't work sometimes]

So I finally gave in and began moving the seat forward, trying to find my normL comfortable spot, but I was still trying to figure out how in the world my seat had been moved back so far... Then I thought, maybe I accidentally pushed 1 of the 2 Memory Seat buttons on my door panel? I've Never intentionally pushed either of those 2 buttons, because I have OCD about pushing those buttons, the same way I do with the parking brake.

So I decide to push 1 of the memory seat buttons for the very 1st time and as soon as I push it the radio cuts off and I hear a loud pop through the speakers. At the same time the air conditioning turns on by itself and my climate control temperature changes itself from 67 to 78... I immediately thought of this thread and said oh hell no what the heck did I just unleash within this beast?! Lol.

I didn't panic though, I turned off the AC, and the amp hadnt blown, all that happened was the station presets somehow reset themselves. But everything else seems fine.

My goodness with these cars sometimes... I'll Never push that memory seat button again. I shouldn't have pushed it in the 1st place.😏smh.

Ok just had to share that with y'all. Thx for reading:)
