I bit the bullet.. I just bought a G21

Yes I'm using both washers.. I've watched Raskys' youtube vid and as soon as I saw the part where he spun his backing plate I was like "whoa mine doesn't spin like that"
I was hoping someone in the comments would ask him about that and I'm glad you did.. Where you ever able to get it to free spin more than a couple of seconds? Mine free spins for about 3 seconds tops.

FWIW my prototype tool never came with a washer and having always used one in my Rupes the first thing I did when I got it was make my own washer. I was disappointed to see how thin the supplied washers were after the release and to see people not getting 100% clearance on some tools. Best option is to make your own if the supplied ones don't give adequate clearance.

My supplied washers provide 100% clearance. 1st I installed 1 and it was enough, but since they provided 2 I figured it couldn't hurt so I installed both of them. There's 100% clearance.

Why would I need to buy washers if I'm already getting more than enough clearance??

Sure as hell weren't getting "more than enough" clearance here, even when you used 2 washers. Then all of a sudden you do?? Don't come at me like that, having posted conflicting comments before.

I just took this pic. This is how it's looked since day 1 when I unboxed it and installed the washers. 100% clearance. If anything, it's a bit lobsided, it's looked like that from the start. But it never touches the shroud when spinning.

My bad. From reading that part of the thread I quoted you, I thought you were referring to the lack of spin compared to Raskys was due to clearance issues. Now I see, that's obviously not the issue.

Cool. Np👍🏽

interesting.. (around the 37sec mark) the new rupes mkII seems to stall some as he applies some pressure...

That's nice and all... But I really don't see how it's relevant to this thread about the Boss😬

How would the new Rupes compared to Griots boss polisher?

I love my G21 and it packs plenty of power and doesnt bog down very easily compared to some other polishers. Heck, my GG6 doesnt stop rotating when you apply pressure... :dblthumb2:

Do you use a 5" or 6" backing plate on your G21?
Going into it, I was thinking 6" backing plate all the way.. But once I ran into those little fenders on the Tacoma I got a reality check.

These fenders are probably among the worst case scenario for a long throw polisher with 6.5" pads. I sure hope this is about as bad as it gets and not too common.

I've polished this same truck before with my HF DA w/5" pads and was able to do every part of it except for the pillars next to the windshield and along the rear window.

On 2nd thought, I was able to polish the pillars before, I just laid down some tape along the sides of it. But obviously couldn't do that with the new polisher.

Eldorado, My Boss is lopsided like that.

Really? Man, what's the dealio... It doesn't seem right for it to be like that._.
Ever since I pulled it out of the box and saw that, I haven't felt comfortable laying it face down. I put it away face up [backing plate up] because I'm afraid it might bend any further and Really mess it up. I dunno :o

I dont know what the deal is. I just use mine and hope if something flies apart is doesnt mess up the paint.

There is really no need to go away from the BOSS pads with the G21. They are great pads. Add the BOSS MF pad and you'll be set.

I'm in Pasadena, BTW

ummm, could i come by and check the machine out....it's been such a long time since we talked. Was thinking about purchasing.....i'm like on Del Mar lol
