3D HD Speed or Meguiars D151

We can experiment with those two together. I have them and haven't used yet. I'll do the wife's Sonata. So let's set a weekend aside in April to do it.

The trim is WG Sealant. It didn't hold up real well on the front.

Next up will be either Dlux or Car Pro Perl.

The sun down here will decimate this trim in no time.

If the 3 day west coast shipping holds true, I'm doing it this next weekend😛
I've been putting off applying sealant on it lately. I've even gone as far as claying the rear of the vehicle and leaving it be about 3 weeks ago.. Truth is I've kinda gotten over the limited longevity of sealants. I guess I can't help but maintain it to a fault? Meaning I wash/touch it so frequently that I lose track of when it's time to re apply sealant and I'm tired of that.
Can't wait to apply this new breed of stuff😎

As far as the trim, I coated it with TW Endura Trim Coat about 10 months ago. Still looks as good as the day I applied it. I'm gonna re apply it all around next weekend just to fully detail every last bit of it. [I re applied a bit of the trim coat to a small area behind the front license plate which I had removed a couple weekends ago, but once it dried it looks on par with the rest of the trim, which is going on almost a whole year since I applied it. The Endura is gold on textured trim]

Yeah and I just washed my Rogue today for the first time since putting the Polish Angel Viking Coat on it a couple months ago. I'd have to say it looks pretty darn awesome. I'd have to say the PA VC held up to the spring pollen in Florida etc.

PS I even dressed the tires for you with HD, but for some reason AG doesn't carry it.

LOL :buffing:

Took these for you about 10 minutes ago.

Never let it be said I'm not a team player, I wiped it down after the wash and dry with BFWDPS. :dblthumb2:

Wow! Thank you for all the responses. This forum is awesome and lively.
I am going with you and HD Speed. I live in South Florida and the sun really is the killer for most clear coats. That's why all old cars in FL (that aren't taken care of) have the typical sunburn :xyxthumbs:

gotta love mark, brutally honest and tells it like it is lol... :D

Lmao. Best response of the day. :props:
Honest and to the point. I am going with speed and the 20% off, you can't beat it!!

I found it interesting that 8 passes were used in this testing.

I have always found it interesting that there are Detailers who choose this technique with an AIO, instead of 4 compounding passes and 4 passes with a finishing polish.

I can understand using an AIO to clean up a vehicle and get a little correction, but cannot understand doing 8 passes and getting a result that is inferior to a 4/4 technique.

.

I thought that was a little odd too. Maybe it was done that way to give an idea of max defect removal?

This thread is just exploding right now LOL

Here is what I will conclude at the present time:
D151 and HD Speed are both excellent products and no matter which one you use you should be very happy with it. BUT if I had to choose only 1 AIO right now, I think CarPro Essence blows them both out of the water. I have not tried Essence yet but all the reviews I have seen, videos and specs sheet show a product that is 2 levels higher than any other product on the market. It corrects well, hides the defects it cannot correct and adds protection lasting 3 to 6 times longer than a normal AIO. The only downside with Essence is the price, at 40$ for 500 ml vs 32$ for 4 liters of D151, it's massively more expensive. If it's gonna be used for a personal vehicle, this is a non-issue. If used for detailing as a business, it has a place alongside a standard AIO and can be offered to client at a higher price point.

The idea was to push the product to the limit of what it can do. A normal AIO application would be 4-5 passes for me.

But strictly to debate your point, doing 4 passes of compounding, 4 passes of polishing and then applying a sealant afterwards will take you a lot longer than doing 8 passes with an AIO. Doing 4 extra passes doesn't take that long. The real time waster is priming the pads, cleaning the pads and wiping down the panels. I figure it would take you at least twice as long to do a 2 step correction+sealing vs doing an extra long AIO application like I did.

On the other hand you would remove an extra 20% of the defects and the sealant would last about twice as long. So there is value in doing it.

But as I said, that was done for comparative results, not to replace a 2 step correction.

:props: Great choice. :buffing:
As a side note, Speed is now being made with HD Polish PLUS(among other things), so it should be even better than the original version that was made with HD Polish.

Thank You. Got done detailing a 2005 Tahoe with factory paint yesterday. This was without any HD Products. I just used a Meguiars Swirl remover followed by 4 Star Ultimate Paint Protection. Turned out pretty darn good. :buffing:

Looks great!

I 100% prefer to polish cars with all factory paint. With re-sprays, for the most part, the paint texture/clarity is below average and there's usually fish eyes, dirt nibs, and sanding marks.

Keep in mind, HD Speed is not an end all, be all product. It has correcting limitations, but it does very good for what it's supposed to do.

I agree with you on that 100%. My Dakota RT was completely overhauled about 6 months ago. The new paint is not as clear as the old paint.
I am getting into detailing and I will be offering three plans. The first plan is the one where I want to use an AIO, it doesn't need to do a miracle since I am just attracting the daily drivers.

That's what I have right now.

Option 1 - clay/cleaner wax
Option 2 - Medium polish/wax
Option 3 - Compound/polish/wax

I also have a light interior option that can be added to any service for an up charge.

If I may ask, what do you use for your Medium polish and compound? Having a hard time finding a product I can stick to.
Thanks.

It takes me approximately 20 seconds to blow out, reload and get back to polishing.

I use a lot of M100 and M205, so wipe off is 5 seconds

That being said, when I have seen Detailers using an AIO, they are typically using arm speed that is way faster than they would even use during a polishing step and covering a lot more area than the standard 2' x 2'

Many will argue that you give the Customer what they are paying for. I suggest that this is an opportunity for Professional AGO Level Detailers to explain the tremendous difference in the end result that is possible for a little more money.

I don't do AIO jobs, but I have done a Hybrid Job, where the show panels, like hood and trunk are Compounded and Polished, but the verticals are only polished.

If I accept your assessment of the time required w two paint correction steps vs. AIO and that you are unable to convince any Customer that a 6 month sealant application is worth the extra money vs. a AIO that lasts 6 weeks...try 2 compounding passes, 2 polishing passes and machine applied Sealant vs. your AIO process.

Do half a hood with each of the two processes; time it and shoot some pictures of the results.

Looking forward to the results.

So how do we know which version AG sells? Or will it also have a name change to Speed+?

From reading here and on some FB groups, HD Polish was tweaked to limit the dusting aspect of the product. Speed is essentially the same.
